Pedrocchi Café — Attraction in Padua

We had very good coffee and desserts. The kind staff also tried their best to find seats for all coming customers, which is quite a feat, given the popularity of the place. But they managed quite well. The interior design is lovely and stylish, it's a nice place to be in. So why only 3 stars then?

Because the lady tasked with maintaining and cleaning the restrooms had her own scamming side hustle. When entering the restroom area, there is a plate on a small table where a small fee of 1-2 euros is to be paid by people using the restroom area, which are NOT customers of the establishment. However, the kind lady was extorting all customers that wanted to use the restroom by continuously pointing to the money plate, and kept repeating only "grazie mille", essentially stopping any and every person from going further, until they've left money on the plate. My wife was even harassed by her, when she downright refused to pay, since as paying customers already, it made no sense to do so.

I raised this with the rest of the staff, and they indeed confirmed that customers of the establishment could use the restroom for free. They were surprised upon hearing what their colleague was doing, and respectfully apologized for the inconvenience.

On top of that, the restroom lady was so involved into her side hustle, that she neglected her fundamental responsibilities. The restrooms were far from clean, and were smelling really bad, which makes the whole situation that much more embarrassing. Furthermore, when women were queuing to use the women's room, she redirected them to use the men's room instead, just to keep the flow going, and have people put money on that plate.

Highly recommend the place, despite the low rating, as long as you don't encourage such unprofessional behavior, and call it out to the rest of the staff. Hopefully, this is corrected in...

A must see in Padova. Caffe Pedrocchi, their signature mint coffee, is rightfully recognised as being something that has to be tasted and it's reputation is well deserved. A beautiful building with many different areas both external and internal to suit all types of weather or size of group. Disabled access is available although not immediately obvious from the front of the building. Just ask a member of staff and they will direct you. Toilets are very clean and well maintained which sometimes is always not the case in Italy (which is a strange quirk of Italian culture especially in view of how fastidious they are about their own cleanliness and the importance they place in the bathroom facilities they have in their own homes. Anyone who has stayed in an Italian hotel or Air BNB will immediately understand what I mean.) A particular mention to the staff in general who were attentive and very helpful. Some reviews here have not understood the Italian culture where you are left alone after making your order to enjoy what you have chosen. They will not continuously return to keep checking up on you. This cultural difference needs to be understood and does not signify a lack of attention. I also have to mention one member of staff (Veshna) for particular thanks and praise for her kindness who directed myself and my daughter to a speciality pizzeria where we had a wonderful end to our short trip to Padova. Caffe Pedrocchi is a perfect place to visit and return to when visiting Padova and is equally good at any time of the day. Con il cuore pensante lascio questa recensione negativa… Ho un bel po’ da dire, preparatevi.

Avevo deciso, insieme ad un’amica, di passare il capodanno al Pedrocchi aspettandomi una certa qualità riguardo cibo e servizi offerti visto anche il prezzo abbastanza alto richiesto per partecipare (180€ a persona). Per certi versi è stato così ma per altri assolutamente no.

Inizio parlando subito dalla cosa più grave che è successa: mi hanno rotto un piatto in testa. No non scherzo. Aspettavo l’arrivo del dolce seduta al mio tavolo e una cameriera, con un po’ troppo piatti in mano, cerca di farsi strada in mezzo al casino della gente che ballava. Le scivola uno dei piatti che letteralmente si rompe sulla mia testa (quindi ho seriamente rischiato di ferirmi) facendone perciò anche cadere il contenuto sul mio vestito, macchiandolo. Mi aspettavo di ricevere almeno delle scuse da parte della cameriera ma no. Niente. Se n’è andata come se nulla fosse. Io e la mia amica siamo andate dalla direttrice per dirle tutte le cose che ci erano successe (sì perché c’è anche altro) e lei si è messa a ridere! Non si è scusata per l’accaduto né ha mostrato una parvenza di preoccupazione… Non mi sembrava di chiedere tanto, mi bastavano delle scuse perché grazie al cielo non mi ero ferita. Non chiedo la luna no?

Ma continuiamo con la storia. Purtroppo c’è da ridire anche sul reparto guardaroba: perché le due addette hanno dato via il mio ombrello (purtroppo di marca) a chissà chi. Quando sono andata a riprendere le mie cose per andare via l’ombrello appunto mancava e la direttrice, dopo avermi in un certo senso “incolpato” della cosa nonostante io le avessi specificato che le due incaricate a inizio serata mi avevano detto che potevo lasciarlo lì, me ne ha rifilato uno a caso trovato in giro… Rimanendo sempre in tema guardaroba riporto anche cosa è successo all’amica (M.) che era con me: sempre una delle due addette al reparto l’ha spinta! Intendo un vero e proprio spintone: M., per sbaglio, le aveva pestato la punta del piede perché un’altra educatissima persona le era finita contro e quell’altra ha reagito in questa maniera esagerata. Per poco la mia amica non finiva per terra se io non l’avessi presa al volo.

Prima di proseguire però voglio spezzare una piccola lancia in favore del Pedrocchi e dell’evento di capodanno poiché è giusto riconoscere i meriti quando ci sono: il cibo era davvero squisito, gli interni erano stati curati e decorati bene e i vari spettacoli ed intrattenimenti erano veramente stupendi. Su questo merita davvero. Il nostro tavolo era in una posizione perfetta e mi sono goduta tutto letteralmente dalla prima fila. Ringrazio di cuore la direttrice per averci messe lì nonostante avessimo prenotato un po’ in ritardo.

Purtroppo però ci sono da segnalare un paio di pecche anche dal punto di vista organizzativo soprattutto in vista del prossimo anno. Gli antipasti consistevano in un buffet situato all’ingresso ma era veramente difficile, se non quasi impossibile, riuscire a prendere le varie cose dai vassoi o anche solo mangiare schiacciati com’eravamo gli uni con gli altri. A detta dei responsabili dell'evento eravamo circa 250 persone e con un buffet situato in una stanza piccolina non ci si sta! Nel prezzo era poi previsto anche l’open bar ma c’era talmente tanta gente davanti al banco che la coda non finiva più. Senza contare che poi si sono aggiunte chissà quante altre persone che avevano pagato (100€ mi hanno detto) per fare lì il post cenone; quindi se prima eravamo 250 ora eravamo ancora di più. Immaginate che disastro...

Concludo dicendo che sì consiglio quest’esperienza perché interessante, ma ci tengo a sottolineare che non è per nulla perfetta e anzi secondo me è sopravvalutata. Tantissimo da migliorare, in primis la cortesia e la formazione del personale (vecchio e nuovo). Personalmente, nonostante tutto ci tornerei, ma solo se il prezzo fosse più basso, più in linea con il servizio effettivamente ricevuto… Sicuro sui 50€ di meno.
