Our tour guide took us here and I knew it was a tourist trap. We did not want to eat here, but we only had 45 minutes to eat before our tour through Pompeii. Our meal cost us 16 Euros per person. The meal consisted of a beverage of your choice (soda, wine, beer, or a bottle of water), bruschetta on toast, salad, entree choice of either pizza, lasagnas, or spaghetti, and dessert. Considering the meal the price was not bad at all, but the food was not good. They brought the beverages on a drink cart since it was easier for them to pass it around for such a big group. The beverages were like warm, but whatever. The brushcetta was the most decent thing out of the course meal that we has. The brushcetta actually had flavor to it, but the downfall was the toast. The toast was definitely sitting out for awhile. The was so hard and inedible. I had to pick the bruschetta off with a fork. The salad was little old and consisted of romaine lettuce and some sliced up tomatoes. There was not much dressing and the overall presentation was just blah. It looked boring and did not look edible. I picked around it and ate the things that looked ok to eat. The pizza took a really long time to come out and you all know that it does not take a long time to make pizza in the oven. The margherita was fine. I had one tiny piece of basil while others had more. The pizza tasted like a pizza. There was nothing special about it. It had flavor, but it was not what I was expecting at all. And I passed on the dessert in the end, but I had tasted my boyfriend's. It was odd. Not sure if it was lemon or hazelnut flavor. But anyway, the cake was really soggy and wet. It definitely tasted like it was frozen and they let it thaw out. When we were trying to pay, who I assume was the owner asked everyone to pay with cash. We did not have enough Euros to pay and wanted to pay with a credit card knowing that they had a credit card machine and saw another server use it. He kept insisting that we pay with Euros. Well, that did not change our answer and we wanted to pay with a credit card still. Do not come here. It is definitely not worth it at all. I was not expecting much, but still have to write about...
Read moreAVOID THIS PLACE: Ristorante Pizzeria Turistico di FRONTE agli SCAVI Archeologici di Pompei (Takeout Edition)
If you’re considering grabbing takeout from Ristorante Pizzeria Turistico di FRONTE agli SCAVI Archeologici di Pompei, don’t. Just don’t. This place is a textbook tourist trap, and their takeout is somehow even worse than dining in.
The pizza came in a flimsy, grease-soaked box that felt like it might fall apart before we made it ten steps out the door. When we finally opened it, the horror continued. The crust was burnt to a crisp in some spots and raw in others. The sauce tasted like watered-down ketchup, and the cheese—if you can call it that—was a rubbery, synthetic mess that didn’t even melt properly. It was lukewarm at best, and the whole thing looked and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours.
To make matters worse, the staff treated us like an inconvenience for ordering takeout. They seemed annoyed that we weren’t sitting down to be fleeced for the full “dining experience.” It took forever to get our order, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy, and when we finally did, it felt like they had thrown it together out of spite.
The prices for this abomination? Outrageous. They charged Naples-level prices for something that wouldn’t even pass as a decent frozen pizza. Plus, they tacked on extra fees for the takeout box, which is just insult to injury.
If you’re visiting Pompeii and need food, do yourself a favor and avoid this place entirely. Grab a snack from a convenience store, or better yet, walk a bit farther to find a place that actually cares about its food and customers. Ristorante Pizzeria Turistico di FRONTE agli SCAVI Archeologici di Pompei is a shameful excuse for a pizzeria, even...
Read moreFantastic traditional Italian eatery. I see there are some very negative and some very positive reviews here. Our whole bus of people were virtually forced to eat here by the tour guide as part of the Pompeii tour. That was fair enough as we had just got out of the long tour bus ride from Naples. Nobody refused as there was a set price which sounded reasonable at the time. We only had about 45 minutes to eat and it appears that they may have already prepared the three different main courses and two desserts before we got there because the whole bus party seemed to get their food all at once and you just had enough time to eat your chosen meals before paying and the tour guide turning up again. Not all the fussy eater members of my party (the kids) enjoyed what they had but we all agreed the pizza was excellent, but I thought the food was about as Italian as you could expect. Fresh and simple and I still reckon one of the best lunches I've ever had and I am partial to quality food and recognised this was good. However, I do agree with some of the comments about staff courtesy which probably could have been improved. I'd give the place a try again in the evening perhaps. Maybe the staff won't be so stressed as when serving fussy tourists just passing through on their way to view the ruins of Pompeii. Unless you bring your own food, you'll probably not have a choice but to eat here if you have arrived on a tour bus. Accept it, eat it, go see the ruins on...
