Stopped in Mr. Marazzi's shop a couple of years ago. Recently, I wrote to ask about buying 2 pieces. He wrote that one piece was either not available or was available but SO expensive (yes, an odd response). He also sent a price list of many other pieces. This occurred on a Thursday, and we agreed I would talk to my wife and let him know by Sunday. Twelve hours later, I received an email from him saying that my failure to respond indicated I was not interested or couldn't afford his work. After I reminded him that I had until Sunday and that I could afford his work, he said Sunday would be OK and that he needed to know my decision so he would know what wood to purchase on his buying trip. Since the piece I wanted was already made, that excuse concerned me. On Saturday, I told Marazzi that I would purchase the piece. He said I couldn't use a credit card or Paypal; I had to make a bank transfer directly into his account of about $9500, leaving me no practical recourse if the piece was never sent. Knowing that Marazzi intends to close his business permanently in December and not knowing Marazzi's financial situation, I declined to make the purchase. Three times he had suggested I couldn't afford his work. Perhaps that's his strange sales technique. Now he started ranting, calling me names and once again saying I couldn't afford his work. He's right to this extent---I can't afford to donate $9500 to him. His strange, desperate emails scared me off. His sculptures are excellent. However, please don't buy one unless you can take delivery at the same moment...
