Ice cream and gelato is terrific.
We go to venchi where ever we find a store and will go looking if we hear it's near by. We even have it in Singapore.
BUT !!
Service on the 21st evening at San Marco was at the best the worst I have experienced in a shop. The 2 young men have the worst attitude I have ever seen not only abrupt but condescending as well. We were standing patiently in line around 9:45 pm and then when it was our turn we asked one question and were treated like idiots by the guy at the cash register , telling us that other people were waiting in line ( the same line we waited in line as well while they served those in front of us , we didn't complain , and no one behind us were complaining!!)
All we wanted to know was what was the Azteco ( I think that's what it was called ) I pointed to the wrong one and he abruptly said pistachio , I then pointed to the front product as we wanted to know what the difference was with dark chocolate he just says ask the other guy.
The other guy was serving the people I front but seemed to know everything I said and that I was wrong when I said his colleague was rude.
I just wanted out so I just asked for our gelato and ice cream to which he served us the smallest amount he could 2 scoops and didn't even reach the lip of the cup.
When I looked you up on google it said the store was now SHUT , and that explains it all doesn't it ! they wanted to close up , NOT serve your customers.
You have my name " look it up " the business I started 28 years ago has 450 stores in 10 countries and employs thousands of staff with a turnover of 600 million.
I wouldn't give these 2 guys the job of sweeping the footpath let alone interacting with any of my customers I value them too highly.
Thanks Sorry for the long complaint but You NEED to know what goes on in the store.
Once again terrific gelato...
Read moreI had the opportunity to try Venchi while in Venice for a vacation. I heard a lot of good things about this place and my experience was pleasant.
To me, this place is kind of hidden but it’s got a lot of good stuff. I said hidden because it’s not directly in front of a major tourist attraction, or the ferry terminal, or a major hotel. It’s on a quiet side street and almost blends in with typical infrastructure of the buildings surrounding it. I was drawn to this aspect while walking by.
They have ice cream and chocolate for sale, so be sure to get at least one of them. You can ask for a sample. Sometimes they will say yes. Other times when it’s crowded they will politely say you can buy one because then everyone will start asking for. My family had ice cream while I got 3 pieces of hazelnut chocolate. Prices are reasonable. I just wish they had a place where guests could sit down.
The way they display the chocolate is beyond perfect. It’s surely a good way to get your attention. I think Venchi is my new obsession. Probably because I am American and am used to the typical Hershey’s, Lindt, or other brands like that. The people who work here are not necessarily rude. However, they told a gentleman to step away from the line as he was looking around. I guess they don’t want lines...
Read moreYes! I loved this place! It was exactly what I wanted. Delicious European chocolates. Just grab a bag and start looking at their wall of chocolates and take your pick. I think I got about nine pieces for about 9 Euro.
My favorite was definitely the Cremino, which has a layer of white chocolate with almond paste sandwiches between milk chocolate hazelnut gianduja. I definitely tasted the hazelnut more than the almond, but the sweetness of the white chocolate really came through. It was so delicately smooth and melted the moment it hit my mouth.
My other favorite was the Truffe Toffee. This one wasn’t in the wall, but in the case at the counter. It was rolled in toffee bits and had a soft center. The toffee bits on the outside had this great chew to them - great texture and it didn’t break my teeth! Also, this toffee was similar to their caramel, but so much better because of its complexity. It had other layers of flavor - not just sweet.
And my other, other favorite was the Crema Caffe. The balance of coffee, chocolate and sweetness was so perfect!!
They also offer gelato, which I didn’t get to try. But based on the lines, it must be popular!
I wish I could just go back for more!! I would definitely visit again the next time...
