Great Location - Small Cozy Rooms
San Gallo Hotel is a small family-run hotel very close to St.Marks Square.
Location - If arriving by train, take water taxi No.2 to St.Marks and from there, it’s about a 5-minute walk with only one small bridge to cross. The other option is to get off at Rialto but there are quite a few bridges on that route, so avoidable if you have luggage. The location is perfect for taking in the sights as everything is a short walk away. Lots of nice restaurants and bars in the area (and not just the tourist traps on the main square).
Checking in - I booked a room in the annexe which was just around the corner from the main entrance. The hotel lobby is on the first floor without a lift, so if you have luggage and are booked in the annexe, leave your luggage on the ground floor and head up to the lobby. Check-in was a breeze. I was then escorted to the annexe section which is a separate entrance. These rooms are also on the first floor and there’s no elevator but that isn’t a huge issue.
Room - The room was really small but cosy - perfect for one person, might be a bit of a struggle for two. There was a TV, minibar, closet, safe & a small desk with a kettle. The air-conditioning worked exceptionally well and I was super grateful for it as it was very hot outside. There are plug points at the desk as well as near the bed. All the rooms are non-smoking but the annexe has a little terrace where one can step out for a cigarette. The bathroom was also tiny but the water was nice and hot and the water pressure was great.
WIFI connectivity was good and speeds were about 40Mbps.
I would definitely pick this hotel again if...
Read moreHotel San Gallo is a unique boutique style hotel, inconspicuous on the outside but very quaint and comfortable. Best of all, the location is in the heart of the San Marco district a few hundred steps from San Marco Square. All the staff are incredible, and very helpful with answers you have about navigating around the city and various districts and waterways. If needed, there is a morning breakfast if purchased separately. Coffee and tea in the rooms. Comp water and a wet bar if desired. There is also a very relaxing rooftop terrace. Food and drink are everywhere in Venice, as well as its famed Italian Gelato. There are no cars, and everything transportation is done by walking or watercrafts. There are many bridges over the canals that involve many steps up and down, as well as in buildings. Be ready for exercise!||Nothing negative to mention. Venice is unique and very popular, and the best thing you can do is go with the flow. Venice's charm, architecture and old-world history make for endless adventures and discoveries. Stay open to surprise sights and...
