If you are like me and you have researched way too many hotels in Beppu due to the vast amount of options, just stop here and book this hotel. 100% recommend. It is new yet has the perfect traditional Japanese feel! Best of both worlds between comfort and tradition in my opinion. You store your shoes in lockers when you enter, and the whole hotel is tatami. They decorated it in a traditional way and it feels like a spa because the atmosphere is so relaxing. The staff are very kind and accommodating. The rooms are sound proof, with lots of space and amenities. They thought of everything and went one step beyond. Welcome snacks and water. Relaxation clothes in the rooms as well as coffee, a water heater, a mini fridge, and toiletries. Baskets for the onsen with towels already prepared for you. Comfortable beds as well! On the firm side like everything in Japan, but still comfortable. The private onsens are to die for. So much attention to detail! Each one is themed a different way! I only tried three, but loved each of them. You don't have to make a reservation either so you can go whenever it's convenient. Sometimes there is a line of people waiting, but the wait goes quickly due to the 7 private onsens available. They also have three free massage chairs, and an area for snacks after. Probiotic drinks in the morning and ice cream in the evening provided free. Also if you are up late they have ramen available. We didn't get the food package so I'm not sure how the restaurant is but with the level of quality of everything else I'm sure it's good as well. They also have parking available for a small fee. Think it was 800yen per night. The parking attendant was...
Read moreStaying at this hotel at the moment and the experience has been very unpleasant. I had stayed in the Kyoto one in 2023 and had a very positive experience, but this new one in Beppu is extremely disappointing!
Firstly, when we arrived at check in at 3:30pm. The stadd at the front door “ordered” us to roll the wheels of our luggage onto sanitizing carpet as if we are kindergarten kids. When I stayed at Kyoto, a staff actually cleaned our wheels with a towel.
Secondly, the private bath is extremely busy and dirty. It was only 4pm when I went and there are already plenty of hair and dirt flowing on top of the onsen. The outdoor onsen is extremely windy with literal tornadoes forming on the water (probably a design flaw) that it’s impossible to take a shower (outdoor as well) under this condition.
Thirdly, I didn’t prepay my stay and was expected to pay at the hotel. When I checked in, the staff didn’t mention anything about payment, so I assume it is to be settled when I check out, like many other hotels I have stayed. BUT NO! These untrained hotel staff called my room multiple times to demand payment upfront as if we would leave without paying. I would have been fine settling the bill at check in, but these inexperienced staff did not ask me to pay. It is not okay to disrupt your guest’s schedule by making this kind of request.
Lastly, there are so many Koreans (by tour bus) here and it’s very noisy everywhere! If you want quiet and peace for your trip, BOOK...
Read moreOne of the most disappointing hotel experiences of my life. I flew to Japan with most of my stay planned at this hotel because of the multiple on-site onsen.
My intention was to spend most of my time soaking my worries away in tranquility. My entire vacation was based on this idea.
The problem is not the building, the staff, or the food—those were all wonderful.
The problem is the guests.
The guests here are absolutely loud, obnoxious, and rude. They are mostly from two specific Asian countries, and if you’ve traveled much around Japan, you’ll know what I’m talking about. There were multiple instances of loud, obnoxious voices, and loud children whose parents didn’t correct their behavior. I just experienced a family splitting up in front of me to get into an elevator I had been waiting for, as if I didn’t exist. There were so many instances of people being loud in the onsen area with absolutely no regard for anyone else. Tonight, there were at least 10 children running around as if it were a waterpark.
No one books this hotel, aside from the offenders, thinking it’s going to be a complete zoo. I expected to relax here, as I’m sure many others do. Unfortunately, that wasn’t even an option. I truly wish the hotel would send guests an outline of expected etiquette and behavior when staying here and in Japan in general. Sadly, such etiquette shouldn’t just be expected in Japan but in any developed country. It’s mind-boggling how people don’t know how to act like responsible, considerate, global citizens in this day and age.
I understand that many businesses in Japan rely on their money, but it comes at a huge cost. It completely ruins the experience for everyone else. I certainly will never return to this hotel—or even this city—because of...
