Hakata Station is the center of transportation in Fukuoka. You can take the JR Shinkansen and all Fukuoka subway lines, and you can use the city bus stop. And there is a bus terminal right next to it, so you can also take an intercity bus on the 3rd floor. There are various restaurants on the Hakata 1st Street (博多1番街: Hakata Ichibangai) in the basement, and there are also famous restaurants. There are also restaurants on the 9th and 10th floors of AMU Plaza. And the rooftop observation deck on the 11th floor is open to the public for free. There is a Daiso store in the bus terminal connected to the 2nd floor overpass of Hakata Station, and there are shopping malls such as AMU Plaza, Hakata Hankyu, and Hakata Marui Kitte 0101, so it is great for shopping and the best in terms of convenience. There is a really famous specialty here, and that is il FORNO del MIGNON croissant. It is located across from the Rail Pass window near the central ticket gate, and it is a famous croissant bakery where you have to wait in line to get it. Hakata Station is an unforgettable place for me. It was my first time traveling to Japan, and on the first day I arrived in Fukuoka, I lost my $700 DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Video Camera right here at Hakata Station. 😭 While staying in Fukuoka, I visited the Lost & Found in the station every day to check if it had been returned, but I could never found it. I don‘t know who found my video camera and is using it, but I hope you take...
Read moreThis Hakata transportation hub is huge, there is Shinkansen, bus terminal, JR rail, tens of restaurants, DAISO..., you name it. We took Shinkansen from Hakata to Hiroshima and bought the tickets right from the ticket kiosk. It was our first bullet train ride and it took us a while to figure out what we should take and pay. Having said that, we still got the tickets WRONG! We only bought the so-called "express tickets" and we needed to buy the "base ticket". We didn't know until we inserted the ticket trying to enter the gate and we were blocked out. We finally went to the ticket counter and had it sorted out. The total price per person is base 5,170 yen plus express portion 3,400 yen, total 8,570 yen. And, you have to insert BOTH tickets together at the gate when you enter, something I was never used to. Then, we thought we went to the right platform and got in the right train, until I asked a passenger if that was going to Hiroshima. He said we were on the WRONG train and very nicely told us which platform we should go. Good thing we asked, or else we could have spent hours wasting on a bullet train travelling in the wrong direction! By the way, when compared with the newer version of high speed railway in China, this Shinkansen train has a bit more track noise and wobble slightly. After all, Shinkansen has been around in Japan for decades. Minor operational noise is expected and...
