... the Mars Garden Hotel, Hakata!||I mean stop it..||The room was only £80 including breakfast, so we were expecting a cup of coffee and a couple of pieces of bread.||What we got was a wonderful Japanese experience which proved to be a fitting end to our two week trip around Japan.||Greeted for breakfast like royalty at 0645, we slipped off our shoes and were escorted to what can only be described as a Japanese Palace, nothing like the rest of this clean, 3 star business style hotel.||The hard bit? Fat boy here trying to get underneath the low table which for somebody 1.9m and 235lbs was a slight challenge. Once in position, wow. Beef stew, a crisp seasoned prawn salad, egg and sausage bratwurst style. Succulent orange and grapefruit segments, yogurt and brioche toast, bread roll and croissant. All washed down with excellent coffee and apple juice.||Beautifully presented, lovingly served.||Simply superb.||Check in also first class. No automated machines here. A new thing, called a delightful human being. This lovely lady suggested a bus and not the Metro to the airport next day. A very good call this which was quick easy and efficient.||Any negatives? Well of course you could not swing the proverbial cat without hitting the walls. But our room was clean and tidy, good bed and good AC.||For a one nighters enroute to the airport we could not have chosen better. The breakfast...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this hotel, mostly because of how conveniently close it was to Hakata Station!! It was a very fairly priced hotel for its location and it was so nice being able to come back to our hotel room just a few minutes after getting to Hakata Station. The room was of good quality and we enjoyed our stay!
One complaint I had was that they were doing a system maintenance or something on one of the days and they had no hot water for a certain time period. However, it lasted a lot longer than they initially said and we had to shower in cold water.
There was another night where one of the guests on the same floor as us was locked out of their room by a family member or something and couldn’t get back into the room. They kept banging on the door and yelling and this was at 1 am at night. The hotel staff couldn’t help either because it was locked from the inside and they couldn’t access it. Although these were a bit out of their control, it did affect our stay at the hotel which is the reason for the 4 star review...
Read moreLocation is fantastic ! 2 mins’ walk to Hakata station which is connected to a few large malls. Lots of food and shopping ( high end and main street ) options. Try the restaurants at 9F and 10F at Amu Plaza for superb quality Wagyu beef ( Teppanyaki and Sukiyaki style). Mara hotel is less than 1 Min’s walk from the bus stop for bus to Fukuoka airport. Bus schedule is every 15-20mins and the bus ride to airport is ~15 mins. Super convenient ! Hotel counter service is good and hotel breakfast is decent, with choice of Japanese or western style. All these aspects more than compensate for the small sized ( but clean) rooms that come with bottled water, coffee/ tea sachets, kettle, pyjamas, slippers etc Overall, very good...
