Just spent 2 nights there in a room with attached private onsen. ||This ryokan is located slightly outside the main tourist belt, which is closer to the river. It is in fact very close to the Gassho village. ||Getting to and from town and the JR station is a breeze as the hotel has its own transport, although it is an easy 15 min walk downhill to town and a slightly more strenuous 20 min uphill climb back to the ryokan. ||The ryokan itself has very friendly staff. Some English is spoken by a few staff and they made an effort to ensure that we were well looked after at all times. ||The room rates comes with half board of breakfast and dinner, which is Japanese style kaiseki (12 courses!) for dinner and typical Japanese breakfast with rice or porridge, pickles, vegetables, fish etc. The food was of high quality and subtantial quantity.||There are two onsen, one on level 1 and one on the roof top. They're pretty small, but usually not very packed since there aren't many rooms and the public doesn't usually make the trudge uphill to this place.||Free wifi, free drinks (beer, tea, water) in the room bar and coupon for free drinks at the front lobby lounge every afternoon are thrown in as well. ||Good place to stay if you want some quiet...
Read moreOnsen hotel offering excellent service, superb food and privacy. Service was next to nothing, staff offered Salmon sushi and malt tea at no extra cost as I choosed to skip breakfast to catch up with early bus schedule. The room was very clean and quite spacious. Dinner and breakfast was in Kaiseki style. The food was excellent, particularly the sashimi and the Hida beef (both grilled and sukiyaki). The use of local ingredients added to the uniqueness of the experience. The onsen was not big but cozy. Considering the hotel has about 20 rooms only, it offer very good privacy and I enjoyed the public bath twice alone in my 2 days stay. Rental private bath was a good surprise and worth to try if you are traveling in pair. Location is a bit far from train and bus station up on the top of the hill, but the the pickup service and a nice view of the mountain...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience! Best onsen hotel in Japan we’ve been to so far!
We stayed in the Orchid room for one night with dinner and breakfast included. The staff greeted us with the warmest welcome and umbrellas in the heavy rain. The room was spacious, well-equipped, and stylishly embellished with traditional japanese features. Both the indoor and outdoor onsens in the room were well-maintained.
We were blown away by the quality of the food. The kaiseki dinner featured many local ingredients from the area, such as rice from Gero, sashimi from Kanazawa, and of course Hida beef.
The staff were very attentive and well-mannered. The staff who served us our dinner took his time to explain each course to us and asked for our feedback.
We throughly enjoyed our stay here. Would definitely recommend this...
