This was my first Ryokan experience on also my first visit to Japan. We had booked one of the rooms with a private bath , the room was everything we were imaging, spacious and comfortable with a bath of the balcony area overlooking the gardens. The bath itself was great and you can control the temperature and flow using the taps. The rooms have all the essentials for a comfortable night stay. The meals were amazing. Food was delicious and in a generous amount. The service was amazing and the person serving us was so kind to answers all my questions regarding the food. Dinner was served in a private room and breakfast in the communal room. I must thank and highlight the kindness and good service of all the staff. Due to a mistake with setting up my alarm clock we overslept and missed the breakfast time, we went to the reception to find if we could get some food elsewhere and the staff there contacted the catering staff who were kind enough to allow us to go up and have our breakfast. Also for those of you like us that arrive a few hours before the check in, keep in mind that the hotel is situated slightly outside the town up the hill and that the roads to it are very ( I mean VERY steep) so not a pleasant experience to carry suitcases and yourself to the hotel. We were lucky that some of the hotel staff saw us and " saved us" by giving us a ride to the hotel, once again great service! Overall this was a great experience, comfortable rooms, very nice hot baths, great food and top notch service! Will be recommending it to everyone! Notes/Tips : if you arrive earlier and the shuttle service has not started yet, you can leave your suitcases in the souvenir shop across from the station ( outside painted in black) or you can pop to the tourism information office outside the station and ask for information there. There are lockers outside the station but if you are as lucky as we were they will be all taken ;) . Gassho village is a great experience also around the town, totally...
Read moreUpon arrival, Yunoshimakan looks like something out of a fairytale. A majestic old ryokan in the forest. The outdoor garden was also stunning. Our room was very clean, and had a beautiful view over the surroundings. The outdoor private onsen bath attached to our room was really nice. I appreciated being able to control the temperature myself. The water itself was heavenly.
Yunoshimakan is an absolutely massive facility. We spent most of the evening exploring random nooks and crannies. While it was quite amusing to do so, this was mostly because the entire building felt like a haunted hotel movie set. While I quite enjoyed the breakfast, my partner did not. He felt like it wasn't prepared in-house. We did not get dinner here so can't speak for it. The staff were all really friendly.
The entire compound is very dated, and not in a good way. An old red carpet, some sad decor, and just a depressing air to the whole place. I honestly felt like I was in some mental health institution instead of on holiday.
We did not order the dinner here, as we weren't sure what time we were arriving. When we asked the front desk, we were told we could order dinner at their restaurant after 2000, just not the fancy kaiseki dinner that had to be pre-ordered. Patient and hungry, we waited for 2000. We couldn't find the restaurant anywhere. We finally found someone who showed us the way. The "restaurant" was actually a snack bar with very limited food offerings, not dinner. The hotel is located in a very small town with only a few restaurants, most of which were closed by this time. In a mad dash we got into our car and found the nearest place so we wouldn't go to bed hungry. Perhaps something was just lost in translation, but this miscommunication was not ok. If we didn't have access to a car, we likely wouldn't have been able...
Read moreThis was my second anniversary with my girl friend, and it was fabulous and fantastic.||We stayed here for 2 nights in different room categories: KEISANZO and BEKKAN (with outdoor onsen).||When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by a lot of hotel staff and warmly welcomed. We took off our shoes and changed into slippers. The hotel staff will then take care of your shoes.||After checking in, hotel staff (Japanese lady, sorry that I did not ask for your name, but you made my stay fantastic) escorted you to your room and introduced you to the room facilities. Throughout the journey, she introduced hotel facilities and confirmed dinner time with us. We do not have to bother anything at all and simply enjoy the onsen inside the room.||At dinner time, she came back to serve the dinner and introduce each course. We greatly appreciate all her efforts to make us enjoy professional Japanese hospitality.||The first night's stay was amazing. For the second night's stay, there were some flaws during the room change procedure, but they were able to fix them quickly!||The KEISANZO room is spacious and integrates both modern and traditional Japanese.||The BEKKAN room is amazing with its outdoor onsen. We were enjoying the onsen with drizzle. The experience is special and unique.||Big thanks to Mr. Hasegawa, who addressed us and helped us solve the issues. I really appreciated his follow-up, which made our stay smooth. With his 15 years of hospitality experience, I believe that he could make the hotel better and maintain their top-notch Japanese hospitality services. Thank you so much, Mr. Hasegawa.||I highly recommend this hotel to people who love a full-course Japanese dinner, professional Japanese hospitality, and amazing onsen.||I would love to come back to relax myself when I come...
