We arrived at Gero Onsen just before sunset, and our timing couldn’t have been better. We managed to grab a bite of the famous Gero Pudding right before the shop closed for the day. This delightful little spot is a must-visit for anyone passing through Gero Onsen, not just for the delicious treats but also for the charm of its surroundings. You can’t miss the adorable building adorned with its iconic frog mascot. The entire place has a nostalgic vibe, complete with tiled benches that resemble washrooms and retro Showa-style furniture, giving it a unique and whimsical atmosphere.

The kids were thrilled to finally get their hands on the much-talked-about Gero Pudding, and it did not disappoint. The first pudding specialty store in Gero Onsen, Gero Purin! All puddings are made with local milk as the base taste for the 6 different flavors; Melon soda, Coffe jelly, Matcha, Retro, Soft with Vanilla beans. I bought Matcha and Vanilla beans for eat-in, 850yen in total. My favorite is the soft one with vanilla beans! Many puddings taste too eggy, but this one is very milky and mildly sweet. Arrived there five minutes to 10 am, and there were a few people already waiting. It looked like the shop opened early, as we saw some people already inside. Not much wait, and we were able to place our to-go order. The staff at the counter was very courteous and helped us with our questions. Once we took our order back to our hotel, we enjoyed them!
