Very gimmicky and poorly kept. Would skip entirely if had the chance or if you don't have other plans for things to do in Hakone. It was fun to discover all the different pools but their condition ruined the effect. The spa has a very run down feel overall: paint peeling, dirty floors, broken pieces of floor and pool wall, rust, grime and dirt stains on the pool sides. Things like the bathing suit dryer in the changing room don't work
A couple of things we were not clear about which could help others to know: Our favorite pool had a panoramic view (when not cloudy) outdoors. It's tucked away and an elevated walkway away behind and to the left of the waterfall pool. It's less crowded because not a lot of people know to seek it out.
You are required to walk around barefoot in the entire complex. Even on the elevator, even on painful and slippery Rock floors, even in the dining area which has food remains all over it. Don't bother bringing slippers. If you have accessibility issues and issues walking barefoot, don't go. There are stairs and painful/slippery floors everywhere that are not accessible without walking.
Hygiene is an issue. If you are worried about hygiene, don't go here. There is no set up to wash before dipping in the different pools, or between the food and pool areas, kids are everywhere. If you have kids, this is a fun place to take them.
The food and beverages inside the complex are pricey. Eat beforehand if you can.
There are storage lockets for 200 yen if you have big luggage. You also get a locker in the changing room included in the admission.
Bring a towel! It was unclear to us where we could get towels until it was too late and we needed towels.
Bring a bag you can hang to take with you into the pool complex.
The pool refilling "performances" are a staff member dressed in an amusing outfit, adding a few bottles worth of wine into the wine pool, milk into the milk tubs, etc. Cute but nothing worth noting. The pools have very little of the purported liquids in the water (wine, sake, coffee, green tea, milk); just enough to color the water a light shade. The slides are not very safe for large people, as the pool you land in is very small...
Read moreWe had an amazing time at Hakone Yunessun celebrating Mother’s Day! The facility offers a perfect blend of indoor pools and outdoor hot springs, making it an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
We arrived early, right at the 9 am opening, to make the most of our day. The parking lot is spacious and costs ¥1,300 per day. The reception is on the fourth floor, where you can choose between the swimsuit area and the naked area. We opted for the swimsuit area so everyone could join in the fun.
Upon check-in, we were given a bracelet with a barcode that we used for payments inside the facility. It’s important to keep track of this bracelet, especially with kids, as you’ll have to pay if you lose it. The facility offers free admission for children under three and special prices for seniors and persons with disabilities.
After securing our belongings in the locker room, we took a memorable photo at the photobooth, complete with Hawaiian-style flower necklaces. The cost was ¥1300, and you can get a digital copy for an additional ¥300.
The main pool is fantastic, with water massages that are perfect for relaxing. We particularly enjoyed the themed heated pools, such as the coffee bean pool, red wine pool, green tea pool, and sake pool. To celebrate Mother’s Day, they had an area filled with purple ducks and decorative walls wishing a Happy Mother’s Day.
The outdoor area features water buckets and slides for both kids and adults, as well as a unique pool inside a cave-like area with a small aquarium. There’s also a sauna and a cold bath for added relaxation.
Though we didn't use the naked area, it's available for a separate fee. For those looking for extra privacy and relaxation, there are paid private rooms where you can rest or get a massage.
The flowing area with an inflatable slide was a hit, though it's mainly for small kids. The food area offers reasonably priced hot meals, and you're also allowed to bring your own food and drinks.
Overall, our second visit to Hakone Yunessun was just as wonderful as the first. It’s a highly recommended spot for family bonding and a fun,...
Read moreCame here with friends. We really enjoyed our time here. The change between hot bath and cold breeze is amazing. Be sure to check out the outdoor bath as it is big, spacious, and relaxing. If you did it bring your own towels, you can rent it from the main counter.
The entrance to the onsen is located in the upper floors.
You will be given wrist band before entering. Once you received the bands, you can enter the auto gate and take off your shoes. Plastic bag is provided for shoes - which you will need to take with you as you head to the changing room.
To access the changing room/ onsen, you will need to take the stairs down to L3. There will be lockers at the changing room with lockers.
For first timers not knowing what to do, you can just get changed to your swimsuit or get naked if you are going for the naked bath. Head to the onsen area and be sure to shower at the facilities provided before getting into the onsen. We did 15-20 mins interval between sitting in the hot bath and sitting down at the bench in the cold breeze. After doing this several time (or as long as you wish- we spent 1.5 hrs here), you can head in to the sauna or shower room before drying yourself to enter the changing room.
There are resting & restaurant area behind the counter if you wish to explore. Make payment before leaving...
