First, location location location! It's so close to bus station and Kowakien train station. You can enjoy a quiet and soothing 10min walk in the mountain to the train station. Keep in mind that Kowakien is a very hilly area so the hotel is basically a secluded paradise without any difficulty to get to. You can hike or jog in the morning along the mountain trails and enjoy the unique beauty of hakone. Kowakien is in the middle of all the hot rivers so you will see steam coming out from waterfalls everywhere! And again there is very few people so the mountain feels like private to you! Also there is a huge Japanese garden right in front of the hotel with flowers and nice trees. Don't forget to have a private garden experience since no one else goes there!||Second the room is so big and hotel is so nice. I asked for a single room and I found a very spacious Japanese style room! This is a small hotel with a total of less than 15 rooms. So it is very private. And at the same time it is very big in area. It almost felt like staying in a very nice house that belongs to someone extremely rich and sophisticated. The hotel is nicely decorated, modern and also well equipped with many bathrooms, a very nice Kowakien onsen place. The outdoor onsen is so nice! Especially when it was nasty and rainy outside, and you get to enjoy some relaxing private (again because the hotel has so few guests) down time in a warm, mineral-rich onsen.||Also the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. They handle everything politely and elegantly. ||The room has no shower. But who cares, you just go to the onsen and take the shower there!||Overall, what a true...

Read moreLocation: Pretty centrally located (it was within walking distance to the main bus stops). BUT difficult to get to as you have to go up and down a fairly steep slope to get to the nearest main road. Nightmare to handle with heavy luggage. There is an easier walking route that takes you to the other side of the hill but it's a longer walk.||Service: Very friendly front desk staff who spoke basic English and very helpful.||Rooms: Rooms were great; modern yet with a traditional flair. Beds were very comfortable and we had a corner rooms so had a great view of the surrounding hills and gardens. The rooms all came with private toilet and a washbasin. ||To take a bath however you needed to use the communal hot bath downstairs. Due to low occupancy, I had the whole place to myself every time over my 4 day stay. There are also options to use a private onsen but you need to make bookings at the reception on the day.||Property: Beautifully landscaped gardens, well maintained and very clean. ||The included breakfast is very basic. Danishes, croissants, and a coffee machine which somehow also dispenses a very tasty beef consomme. There is no restaurant on-site.||Tips: If you have a lot of baggage, would advise that you take a taxi from the train station. The public buses are not made to accommodate luggage; they're basically commuter buses and...
