My wife and I visited this restaurant with my 6-month-old baby on 21st May 2024 as part of my stay at Tenyu and had the worst dining experience in Japan. This place is not baby-friendly. The second we sat down, the server told us that if the baby cried, we had to bring him to the toilet. I understand that baby crying can disturb other customers, but how do they expect me to calm a baby in a toilet? I know English is not their first language, but how they conveyed the message made me feel horrible as a parent who brought a child to a restaurant.

The food is below average as well. We had the beef Shabu Shabu dinner for two, which was very underwhelming. I saw the menu and will not pay anywhere near that price to get the shabu shabu.

It was such a horrendous experience that I cancelled my already paid-for dinner the next day during my Tenyu stay and decided to find dinner myself instead.

This was one of our best meals during our 14 days in Japan! We usually avoid tepanyaki in the USA, but this was terrific. Our chef Toshiki Higa was masterful and prepared delicious courses at every turn. The lobster was perfect and the Matsusaka beef sirloin and tenderloin was tremendous. Like butter and great flavor. We didn’t have Shabu shabu ( not a big fan) so can’t comment on that. We can be picky and frequently visit fine dining establishments so I was so pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend. Ignore the reviews about not enough food or not child friendly. Those folks should just go to a buffet or go to Mickey D’s...

The teppanyaki experience at Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu was truly exceptional! The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff provided impeccable service. The teppanyaki dinner was a highlight, with each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. From the fresh appetizers and smoked red Fuji trout to the Ise lobster flambéed with hojicha tea and the melt-in-your-mouth Matsusaka beef sirloin and tenderloin, everything was exquisite. We opted for the wine pairing, which perfectly complemented the meal. Sitting at the counter and watching the chef's masterful skills was an added bonus. Highly recommend this luxurious...
