Mount View Hakone is just outside the bus stop & nearly 50 mins bus ride from Odawara station (ask train station staff for directions if you need help and they should be able to assist you where to go) - ensure you have enough money on your IC card or exact cash. Be careful of your luggage on the bus ride especially being a tourist, we had big luggage cases. A commuter didn't hold onto her luggage & it kept rolling around in the bus. It may feel far away but once you arrive, imho it was worth it. Booking your accommodation at the Ryokan, you can pre-book & opt for Kaiseki breakfast +/ dinner which was amazing (especially for veg standards) and I pre-ordered for vegan meal as I am lacto-ovo Vegetarian however the western breakky be careful of the corn soup and yoghurt - however nice variety of vegetables & prepared so nicely. You can pay to include either breakfast, dinner or both and is downstairs in little booth areas in the dining hall area. We opted to relax and enjoy the food prepared here as most shops seem to close early and we wanted to fully enjoy our experience in Japan. The meal filled us up and we didn't need to ask for more rice and we felt very satisfied. It is not served in your room but downstairs in the dining area which we didn't mind and the staff assist you quickly and were so helpful. Please note drinks are extra as per menu on your table. The room is clean, nice and very spacious for 2 people and has a toilet and sink. Open Showers you will need to go downstairs for the bathhouse and you can go to the onsen after bathing (separation of genders or family) - not an issue for us as we were happy to enjoy this experience and accommodation includes access to the downstairs bathhouse 24/7 (just not whilst they are cleaning 10am-11am). Otherwise you can also pay extra for the private onsen (cash only) which we enjoyed which you will need to book at reception on the day and early for specific time slots - highly recommend checking out the public bathhouse downstairs anyway. I was lucky no one was using it when I went so it was very tranquil and peaceful (note we went when it was a non holiday time in Japan and it didn't seem packed which was very nice for us). The hotel provides towels, tea, little mochi and biscuit in your room. Bathing culture is big in Japan including some other Asian countries so please research and understand beforehand including etiquette. Don't be "that tourist". A very nice traditional inn - Ryokan experience and worthwhile in my opinion (a bit pricey but a fantastic special experience to enjoy). They even lend you yukata to wear during your stay and provide you with instructions to wear properly. Staff are friendly, ready to help and speak Japanese, English and Chinese which was amazing which made everything easier. You can ask them for the bus timetable. Note it is close to the main road so you may hear a little bit of noise outside at night when sleeping if you are a light sleeper but it was fine for myself. The walls a bit thin, typical Japanese. Please note this place does not provide bottles of water in your room which we did find strange. I recommend you stay hydrated as soaking for a bath, walking around lots and eating etc you will want to keep hydrated. There is a mini shop of local goods and vending machine if you need in the lobby area. The vending machine takes cash only at the moment. There is aircon in the room which we needed as it can get a little humid being End of Spring. Please note there is some mountain views but it's not of Mount Fuji. Umeshu was delicious. Close and within walking distance to some activities such as Lalique Museum, Hakone Venetian Glass Museum, Hakone Botanical Gardens, Choanji Temple and Sengokuharasuwa Shrine. 7/11 and Lawson convenience store and a small supermarket (if you don't mind walking a bit extra) is close by within walking distance. If you are doing the Hakone driving experience you can walk there very easily from here :) so very worthwhile and easily accessible for any nearby activities. Overall nice stay and enjoyed it.

Recently stayed here from May 08 - May 10 (2019), on my way back to Tokyo from Osaka. tldr: I would recommend this ryokan if you are wanting to try a more budget friendly one. The experience is great, but some aspects of it are very lackluster. And the formality of the ryokan was personally a turn off for me. Pros: - Cool experience if you've never been to one - Good location, 20ish minute walk to the Mt. Kintoki trail head - Onsen is great - Customer service is Japanese service times 10 Cons: - Food is flashy, and had strange flavours - Beds are terrible - Customer service feels too formal It was my first time staying at a ryokan and I really enjoyed the traditional Japanese feel along with the onsen. The ryokan definitely draws in an older crowd, I'm 23 and everyone in my group is about the same age and everyone we saw was at least 35 over - some with toddlers. The onsen seems like a good size, about 7 showers, 1 indoor pool, 1 outdoor. Family shower available (No pool). And private onsens are available as well, at a cost. The ryokan is very formal, the ryokan staff are almost always within sight ready to help. But it was too formal in my personal opinion, I felt like I was 12 years old at a summer camp with adults watching over me every waking moment. The first day there, someone in my group seriously asked "Wait, so can we leave this place during the day?" I'm very good with sleeping on almost anything, but the sleeping pads/mattress and blankets that they provide you with are terrible. The pillows are basically flat sheets, the blankets have a fitted sheet over the side you touch. Even with the A/C on low/med I woke up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat (I'm naturally warm-bodied). Lastly, the food was pretty disappointing. I appreciate a fixed course, but here the dinner is nothing but flashy. It doesn't taste great, the flavours are strange and a lot of it is room temp by the time you eat it.

I would give this place a 0 star if I could. Worst and Horrible experience with racial profiling. Plz AVOID this place if u speak Chinese although they advertised as multi languages friendly. First of all, one of the receptionists with a short ponytail (didnt qsk her name since I was furious second day before we left on finding out that actually she spoke Chinese well) who led us to our room pretended she only spoke Japanese and somewhat English. So she could avoiding talking to us in the beginning (no greeting at all as well) which gave us almost no info about their hotel, room or even the type of their hot springs ( I flied 20hrs solely for this). Secondly, before making the reservation of private hot spring shortly after we arrived before the dinner I ASKED her if this is private hot spring is for free in English and she told me yes. However, got charged for 2000yen second day when we checked out. For us, I understand the rule and respect the rules of your hotel but she shouldn't lie to us about the extra charge. This was ended up a scam. Last, after she realized that we have possibly found out that she does speak Chinese. She passed by us (she confronted us) with a face but without a single word as we left the hotel..... the only good memory of this hotel is the lady who served us at dinner and breakfast. Informative and friendly. Food was okay. Room was not match to the description when I am booked.

This establishment provides the ryokan experience. We stayed for a single night, and indulged in the private onsen and the dinner/breakfast combo. ~380sgd~ 280usd per night. The private onsen we took costs us 2000yen on top of our stay. It was pretty decent. Besides the onsen, I really don't understand why this place is rated so well. The provided room was large, and provided the ryokan experience of sleeping in futons and drinking tea. However the TV was incredibly small (23") by today's standards, this may not be important for the "ryokan" experience but it mattered to me. And we had to request for the tea to be made. For the price, we were expecting better customer service. Breakfast and dinner was served in their dinner room rather than in your room as I expected from other ryokans. And the food... The food tasted like something I could get going across the road to a Lawson's. It was convenience store standard at best. I was especially ticked off by the fact that dinner had 3 servings of rice, udon and glass noodles, with small servings of non-carbohydrate groups. It just stank of extreme cost cutting, designed for people who had no experience in Japanese cuisine. Refer to my picture for the dinner that was served. Needless to say I would never spend any money here again. Let alone near 150usd/night/pax.

Authentic ryokan experience in the heart of Hakone. This ryokan specializes in a full service experience. Rooms have tatami mats so shoes must be left at the entrance of your room. Yukatas (and green jackets) are provided and should be worn both to the onsen and when dining. Dining was part of our package for breakfast and dinner and was spectacular with multiple courses each time. Just the first course is pictured below. The onsen is in the lowest floor and is separated for men and women. You should be unclothed as you use it and having soaped and showered before use. We found the onsen not to be crowded and a pleasure to experience especially after a long day. Lake Ashi is nearby and worth a day trip on the hop-on-hop-off boat. The inlay trays in the gift shop come from local stores on the far shore after a beautiful walk amongst a cedar forest. We still liked one tray in the store the best, but it’s worth the detour as the craft is completely local. The staff spoke English and were helpful and accommodating. Our visit was a special one and a perfect stop and experience on our way form Tokyo to Kyoto. Lake Ashi and the cedar forest pictured below.

Mount View. Is an excellent stay for 2 nights. Bus stop right up front so it is easy access from Odawara or Hakone Yumoto. The bus ride is an experience on its own by the way. While planning your tripp consider getting Hakone Free Pass. It covers most of the transports in the area. Including public transportation from Tokyo. The hotel got "Tatami floors" and it gives a traditional feel to the room. There are a couple of options for Onsen. 3 different private you can book for 45 min. And two public. Dinner and breakfast is served in a dining area organized by room number, one table per room and what a dinner. All sorts of small dishes. If you like traditional Japanese food you are in luck. In the lobby you can find a small gift shop. Very cute. Staff is wery friendly and make sure your stay is perfekt. The previous guest in our room had left stuff in the fridge and when we called front desk we got apologies from here to tomorrow. And a free of charge onsen booking. To be able to stay 2 nights here was relaxing after 4 harsh, buissy nights in Tokyo.
