It is the main street that runs through the center of Gion, Kyoto's north-south street, and is also the city's representative flower district. Bordered by Shijo-dori, the northern side is lined with bars, clubs, restaurants, and taverns, while the southern side is lined with teahouses and ryotei restaurants. Hanamikoji is probably best represented by Ichiriki-tei, a teahouse with a 350-year history dating back to the Edo period. It is also a long-established teahouse with the highest history, prestige, and threshold of any teahouse in Gion, with no visitors allowed at first glance.
It is not unusual to see geisha and maiko heading to the teahouse around evening.
On the side streets of Hanamikoji, there are signs prohibiting entry, photography, and video recording, with a note stating that failure to comply will result in a fine. It is assumed that this was probably put up by the residents due to ill-mannered tourists. When walking along the street, we should be aware that this area is an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings and that it is an important place for the residents, and we should try to enjoy pleasant sightseeing while taking care not to cause trouble to...

What you see now was not completed in an instant at someone's command. I hope that it will be treated with care so as not to...
