同志社大學成立至今150年，前身為1875年由明治六大教育家之一的新島襄所創立的「同志社英學校」。校名「同志社」的意思為「相同志向的人聚集一起而創立的結社」。做為基督教新教系統的學校，但非為了傳教而成立的宣教型大學，而是屬於以基督信仰為辦學宗旨的基督教主義學校。校園內的建築群為一致的紅磚色，整齊劃一實屬難得。校內有五棟列入重要文化財，是建築美學的殿堂。 ①克拉克紀念館，外觀是德國「新哥德式」，在1894年開館，當時是做為「神學館」使用。高聳華麗的金屬尖塔非常吸睛，是該校校徽圖案。 ②同志社禮拜堂，這座禮拜堂建於1886年，外觀採用了哥德式教堂的建築工法，外牆有扶壁，還有尖拱形窗與圓形玫瑰窗，是日本現存最古老的紅磚造禮拜堂（チャペル），小巧美麗。該校的開學典禮和畢業典禮都在這裡舉行。 ③有終館於1887年完工啟用。是同志社大學第一代圖書館，也是當時日本最大規模的大學圖書館。目前則是同志社總長與校長辦公室。 ④彰榮館，於1884年完工的彰榮館，是京都市內現存最古老...
