ハリス理化学館　［重要文化財］: 高等教育レベルの理科教育機関設立のために寄せられたJ.N.ハリスからの寄付により、ハリス理化学校（理工学部の前身）の校舎として建てられました。A.N.ハンセルによる設計で、1890年7月に竣工したレンガ造の建物です。1979年5月に重要文化財に指定されました。現在は、同志社の歴史と創立者・新島襄の今に息づく精神を、貴重な資料によって紹介する、ハリス理化学館同志社ギャラリーとなっています。（出典：同志社大学HPより）

＜ハリス理化学館＞ 1890年（明治23）年竣工。面積588.62㎡（延1,105.87㎡）。同志社教員のラーネッド（D.W.Learned)の知人であるアメリカ（コネチカット州ニューロンドン市）の実業家、ハリス(J.N.Harris)が「自然科学教育のために」と寄付した基金（10万ドル）の中から建てられ、イギリス人の建築家、ハンセル（A.N.Hansell)が設計した。この校舎で開校した「ハリス理化学校」は1896年に廃止されたが、1949年に発足した現在の工学部の前進に当たる。建設当時は屋上に天文台が設置されていた。1976年に耐震補強などの改修が行われた際、内部は模様替えが行われたが、階段は建築当時のままである。新島襄の葬儀が隣の礼拝堂の前で行われた際、ハリス理化学館は建設工事中であったが、学生たちは新島の棺を若王子山頂に担ぎ上げるのにその資材の一部を利用したと伝えられている。現在の階段の手すりがそれでありという。1979年、国の重要文化財に指定された。（同志社大学：現地案内版より） Harris Science Hall [Important Cultural Property]: It was built as the school building of Harris Science School (predecessor of the Faculty of Science and Engineering) with a donation from J.N. Completed in 1890 (Meiji 23). Area 588.62㎡ (total 1,105.87㎡). From a fund ($ 100,000) donated by JN Harris, an American (New London, Connecticut) businessman who is acquainted with Doshisha teacher DW Earned, "for natural science education." It was built and designed by British architect AN Hansell. The "Harris Science School", which opened in this school building, was abolished in 1896, but it is an advancement of the current Faculty of Engineering, which was established in 1949. At the time of construction, an observatory was installed on the roof. When renovations such as seismic retrofitting were carried out in 1976, the interior was redesigned, but the stairs remain as they were at the time of construction. The Harris Science Hall was under construction when the funeral of Joseph Hardy Neesima was held in front of the next chapel, but students used some of the materials to lift the Niijima casket to the summit of Wakaoji. 同志社大学内にあるギャラリーです。 入館無料。一般に解放されています。

ハリス理化学館はJ.N.ハリスの寄附をもとに1890（明治23）年に竣工し、ながらく同志社における理化学教育の拠点となった建物です。現在、国の重要文化財に指定されています。

建物は2階建てで9部屋にそれぞれのテーマで展示が行われています。 ラウンジでは同志社グッズを購入することもできます。

田辺校地にある歴史資料館の分館という位置づけの資料展示施設。 田辺の方は考古資料が中心であるが、こちらは同志社の校史と今出川校地から発掘された資料が展示されており、大河ドラマ八重の桜でも紹介された新島襄の自責の杖も展示されている。また企画展も開催されている。 １階には売店もある。 大学の歴史のわりに規模が小さいのは残念。学究の成果を示すような施設があればいいのだが。 建物のハリス理科学...
