Absolutely not worth the price. This tiny shrine looks okay at best, as far as Kyoto goes it's rather pedestrian. Once you go inside, they collect an absurd 500 yen to go inside, where there are a couple tiny small rooms with exhibits in Japanese Kanji only, along with a tiny zen garden outside that is behind locked doors. Probably no worth visiting if it was free, but for 500 yen, it is a total waste of money.

They have a combined ticket with the nearby Hogon-in Temple that costs 800 yen, saving you money versus buying tickets separately. The problem is, Hogon-ji is just as bad as Kogen-ji is, and this combined ticket only grants admittance to part of that tiny temple.

Save your money and skip this...
