Kyolan Kimono Rental & Sale — Attraction in Kyoto

Edit after answer from the owner: I updated the score from 3 to 4 stars. The owner is right, it was our mistake. We assumed, that everything can be booked together, so we added the wish for the photoplan into the form for the kimono rental, which I guess was overlooked. They also where very sorry and took extra care, also taking photos at the entrance which looked great. I also edited the review after leaving the shop because I felt pressured into giving a good review for the discount, while the lady in the shop was looking over my shoulder.

I have two suggestions for improvement. Make it clear, that the different plans have to be booked separately. Add information on what sizes of clothing will be available.

Original review: I was there with my GF. We created a reservation months ahead with the additional photo plan, because we wanted some nice photos of the trip to Kyoto. Sadly when we arrived the lady at the desk told us that, since we did not create a reservation ahead there was no photographer ready. We showed her the confirmation email that was send to us (with the photo plan on it), but she insisted, that we did not make a reservation, even though we could see that our names where on here list. This was quite disappointing for us. We still decided to proceed with the rental. The service was good and they where very helpful. You get a discount for posting a 5 star review, so their score is probably inflated.

A few notes for foreign tourists: They pretty much only understand and speak Japanese other than a few words to sell you the service (I did not expect them to, but just so you know). If you are very tall (they only have clothes for up to 185 cm for men) or do not have a thinnish waist your selection of clothes will be...

The whole experience at Kyolan Kimono Rental for my family was exceptional and would greatly recommend this place for Kimono rental. The staff there were all very patient, friendly and meticulous. They have a great selection of kimonos for adults and children. We made a reservation in advance and the whole procedure from changing kimono to doing up my wife’s and daughter’s hair was very smooth and fast. Recommended to make reservation in advance as it gets pretty crowded in the afternoon. In addition, we also engaged their photography service and Lucas was our photographer. He was very patient, friendly and professional throughout the photography session. He was also very patient with children as both our children are still young, they have gotten slightly cranky due to the hot weather however he was able to capture their attention and let them be themselves yet still able to take lovely photos of them. The place that Lucas recommended was very pretty and quiet which really suit my family preference as we prefer places that are less crowded. My time here at Kyolan Kimono was one of the greatest highlights of my recent Japan trip! There was a pleasant abundance of kimono designs for selection, and the price were absolutely reasonable! The staff were extremely friendly. My husband and I managed to communicate with the staff in english and mandarin - which I feel is ideal for many tourists:)

The hairstylists and kimono stylists were very professional, friendly and talented. I loved my hairdo and outfit - selected by the team of professionals. The whole team's service is deserving of a 5-star review!

We also took a photoshoot with Lucas - he was extremely humble and sincere. He went the extra miles to make us feel comfortable during the shoot! When we received the photos, we were amazed with the quality - the lighting, the composition, the colours - were all so amazing! We had a tremendously good time

I had recommended them to many of my friends, and will definitely recommend them to all who are intending to go Japan:)
