My husband and I visited this restaurant after finishing our visit to Monkey Park around 2 PM. Upon entering, we waited for about 5 minutes before calling a server to place our order. Since we weren’t very hungry, we decided to share one dish.
However, the server informed us that each person must order at least one item, despite there being no clear notice of this policy on the restaurant’s signage. When I refused, the server changed their stance and insisted that we each order a smaller set menu from the back page, priced at 2300 yen per person. But my husband and I simply wanted to share one large dish, which was not accommodated. I felt that my request was ignored, which came across as unprofessional.
The server then changed their approach again, saying we could share the large dish we wanted, but only if we also ordered an additional drink. I refused once more and clearly stated my position: I only wanted the one dish and wouldn’t order anything extra. If the restaurant required me to do so, I’d prefer to leave.
The server didn’t respond, offered no apology, and said nothing as we left the restaurant.

The place gave vibes of a tourist trap but we're starving and everything else was closing so we were trapped.
Waitress advertised meat A5 grade wagayu, kind of a black flag since all japanese beef is wagayu but highly doubt it was A5 didn't looked fatty enough, unless it's the leftovers of A5 which would explain why after eating both of us had a bad case of enough said.
We have been in Japan for 2 weeks eating all kind of stuff, yes including wagayu and never had stomach issues until there.
I don't think it's worth the price especially when there are so much good food in Japan, if you can hold the hunger take a train get out of the tourist area and eat something good.
At any rate I recommend avoiding this one.
And if anyone asks "have you tried wagayu?" if you have eaten beef in Japan you...
Read moreWe had an unforgettable meal at Wagyu to Kyoto Tofu Arashiyama Miyoshi Tei during our visit to the Arashiyama area. The highlight was their steak hitsumabushi, which was beautifully presented and thoughtfully prepared. The wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the three-way eating style—enjoying it as-is, with condiments, and with dashi broth—made the experience both interactive and delicious.
Every bite was rich in flavor, and the onsen tamago added a luxurious touch. The staff was kind and attentive, guiding us through the proper way to enjoy hitsumabushi. The serene, traditional atmosphere perfectly complemented the meal, making it a relaxing and memorable stop after exploring the bamboo grove and Togetsukyo Bridge.
Highly recommend making a reservation if you’re in Kyoto—this is a must-visit...
