Hotel Arashiyama is exactly what the name says, a hotel in Arashiyama. A very modest name for a great establishment that I recommend and will come back to.
The staff was very friendly, helpful and understanding. The location is one of a kind with easy access to the Hankyu line, 15m away from a JR station and immediately within the premises of Arashiyama. The hotel itself filled us with delight every day: Refill of crackers and water bottles every day. Free sento passes. Extremely competent room cleaning service. The kettle (of all things) and tea was really nice. Very useful amenities like sponges and hair combs.
Unfortunately, some things might detract from the experience: Our room window was not sound-isolated properly so the river noise would leak into the room, bringing a constant white noise. The wifi connection was quite poor, zoom calls or streaming videos was difficult. One day, we smelled cigarette smoke in the hallway, that was unexpected but thankfully it did not seep into the room. The room only has one bedside table, the other side was occupied by a full height mirror. We would rather have had two bedside tables.
Overall, those issues did not cause any problem for us and we enjoyed the cleanliness and high quality of service very much. As well as the direct access to the river, forest and activities in the area. We made use of their microwave and climate control without any issues. We did not try their breakfast so we cannot comment on that. Everything else was a...
Read moreMost travelers use Kyoto Central as their base for a trip to Arashiyama, but if you want to savour this little town and all its beauty, then it's worth a night's stay!||||We had an air conditioned, non-smoking room with a spectacular view of the Togetsu-Kyo bridge. The sound of the rushing water was soothing for bedtime. The bed was comfortable and furnished with a light comforter. A traditional Japanese set breakfast was also included. Their cute patio was inviting, but the summer humidity kept us indoors with the air conditioning! All major sights were within walking distance.||||We were surprised that nearly all Arashiyama shops and restaurants closed at 6pm and were left with only one restaurant near the JR station. about a five minute walk from the hotel. Thanks to the front desk agent for this information, we were able to enjoy a delicious tofu dinner set, alongside the rickshaw drivers who were having a light meal and drinks after a long day of work! We could also enjoy the night view of the bridge when most of the tourists had left. Definitely, worth a...
Read moreA spacious boutique hotel with high ceilings, I stayed in a twin room with a view with of the river and bridge. The room was clean and comfortable, bathroom (to be expected) was compact but efficient! Room facilities were clean and air con was appreciated after a long hot day. They also have a microwave and utensils for any food you pick up from outside. A side note but nothing to do with hotel, most local causal restaurants close early, last orders at 6:30pm. The hotel is close to subway lines (depending which station you’re arriving at). It took me 15 minutes to walk from the station (it was the one furthest away, taking you past all the local town restaurants and shops. Getting up early for a morning stroll to the major sites and temples made it easy. Presented with a discount coupon for the neighbourhood onsen, 2 minutes walk from the hotel is a must! Highly...
