Came here because it's a historic area. However, there weren't many historical markers or things to see. It was very crowded with a lot of tourists. The marker for the bridge that had more information about it was in the smoking area. As an asthmatic I couldn't go down there to read. Regardless of the overcrowding of tourism in 2024, the bridges do not disappoint, even in the fall. Just a beautiful day, with lots of good smells coming from the restaurants around it. I don't do a lot of nightlife when I'm traveling because I travel solo, but it seems like this area is a popular place to have a drink and a good time in the evening.
Something to note about the times of the restaurants. If you're looking to go here, there are some places that are open for lunch, but they close around 2:00 or once they sell out. They open around 11:00. However, most of the businesses that serve food seem to be closed between 2:30 or 3:30 and the evening hours, with some opening around 5:00 and others opening around 7:00. So, if you're looking for a late lunch, it's probably not a great place to go for warm food and vibes. Just something to keep in mind if you're planning to visit this area and in Kyoto, in general.
