NIKUSHIN — Restaurant in Kyoto

We stumbled upon this place last year and loved it so much we went two nights in a row. Ever since, we’ve been looking forward to our Kyoto trip just to eat here again—and of course, we ended up coming back twice in a row again this year!

The staff is incredibly friendly and some even remembered us from last year, which made us feel so welcome. The quality of the meat is outstanding (and surprisingly affordable), and the fresh kimchi is an absolute bomb. While everything we tried was delicious, our top favorites were the special short ribs and the sirloin slices—truly unforgettable.

They gave us our favorite table by the river, where we enjoyed the evening breeze while barbecuing. The cherry on top? Watching the heron that almost always perches in the water nearby—it makes the whole experience even more special.

It's pretty good here.. it's my first time in Japan from California. I feel what I'm not used to is the constant feeling of being rushed. We ate here last night. We were told 90 mins only. There's just two of us. No problem. We ordered the meat variety dinner. 5000 each. plus we ordered extra of the best meats.. the bill was building higher, but after 45 mins, we were told we had 10 minutes left. I knew the time based on my social post when we sat down. We ate what we ordered and obviously left for their rsvp coming in.. but 55 minutes for a 17,000 bill was a whirlwind. Everyone is friendly, meats came out quick, and the atmosphere was nice. Just wish it was the full 90 minutes we were expecting. Oh.. Excellent kimchi here, too. We would have returned.. but not for the turnover rate...
