Shoren-in Garden — Attraction in Kyoto

Very beautiful temple compound with an attached villa and scenic garden. When we went in May 2023 the temple itself was being renovated but the villa and garden was open, the ticket for both was ¥800 I believe. Begin by walking around the villa, enjoying the screens and architecture, pause to sit and enjoy the calm by looking out into the garden. Then exit out and under into the garden itself and take the relaxing stroll around and up.

My husband and I wanted to see traditional Japanese home + garden + temple without the crazy crowds in the main tourists spot.

I googled gardens, and this showed on the 3rd of my list. We decided to take a chance and go to Shoren-in Garden instead of the other tourist places we’ve planned.
