Nananoichi — Restaurant in Kyoto

We ate breakfast twice and picked up takeout from this restaurant and it was so good, that we skipped our group dinner and ordered it again! Nananoichi is gorgeous decorated, has vintage records playing on their record player and has a really cool style. The staff are excellent and they had English speaking associates to help us.

The breakfast has western and Japanese items and its buffet was delicious and vast with lots of choices all neatly labelled. We ate the Japanese items and they were wonderful, including the tea selection. Sit by the window that looks into the garden if you can. Our friend dined there for dinner and she said it was fabulous as well.

For takeout I would recommend the Kobe beef burger, as it’s the best burger I have ever eaten, with a zingy ginger relish. The chicken was the crunchiest I have ever eaten, the beef curry was tender and rich, and the careful made selection of sandwiches were top notch! Tamago egg salad sandwich? Ok!! Dined here twice. They had 2 sandwich options (burger and a mixed sandwich) - I tried both. Burger was mediocre. The other sandwich was supposed to be a mix of a salmon spread and duck. What I received was quite surprising. I recognized the bread to be the same colored bread that they serve in the hotel's breakfast buffet (could be coincidence) which doesn't have any taste. It wasn't even a sandwich - it was just many small pieces of bread with spread and butter/cheese in between...no duck was part of it, which was sad because I was looking forward to it, as advertised on the menu. No clue why this item is on the menu and why they would even charge the price they did for this item.

Service is good, and the fish dish I had was solid. Not a big selection of items on their dinner...

This is a great, underrated hotel restaurant. The hotel itself is modern and upscale. The restaurant is equally so and serves a menu that is Kyoto and French fusion, and they pull it off well. We came here for date night and were pleasantly surprised. Food is excellent, preparation and presentation excellent,and the staff and service excellent. Friendly servers, and quick, attentive response time.
