Here lies the ruins of Tadayoshi Nakayama's mansion, who was the grandfather of Emperor Meiji. 中山忠能の邸宅。五男中山忠光（姉中山慶子の子供が祐宮後の明治天皇が５歳まで中山家で育ったため自身も祐宮が禁裏に戻るまでの遊び相手として過ごす）は天誅組主将。

文久３年８月１７日奈良県五條代官所を襲撃し討幕の狼煙を上げるも翌８月１８日に京で中川宮などによる政変で一転皇軍が逆賊となる。

９月２７日に大坂の長州藩邸に逃げ込み長州で再起を図るも藩内でも幕府に降伏する恭順派により現在の下関市にて絞殺される。

刀を使わなかったのは病死を装うものとされる。時に中山忠光１９歳。
