Grand Burger — Restaurant in Kyoto

If your looking for as close to an all American burger then this is the only place I have found so far. Moss or freshness are great but the meat is definitely Japanese style. Just a few steps away from my campus for lunch. One guy doing everything so it is a little bit of a wait but not to bad. No worries about keeping your voice down either. About 8 bar stools and five tables. English menu. Meat is cooked through but not hard and still juicy. Buns are warmed on the grill and soft. I got the Grandburger set for lunch. I think all come with pickles, light mustard/mayo mix sauce in case your completely against it. Other than that you add your own ketchup and mustard at the table. I really wanted to like this place. I'm hoping I came at a bad time. The decor is absolutely beautiful and reminded me of home in California. The waitress was visibly stressed, sighing and tense. The poor chef had more orders than he could handle. I got the grand Burger and it was... Ok. Like the decor, the burger was gorgeous. The buns we're good. The avacado didn't really taste good. Possibly frozen? The beef was also just completely tasteless. I found myself trying hard for find the flavor. The cheese was nice. Served with mixed fries and Cole slaw. The ice coffee was your typical ucc type, and the beer selection was a lot of heniken, Miller, and bud. Overall, it wasn't bad but I can't imagine coming back. Decent but bizarre. Looks great, chips cannot be faulted but the burger is - interesting. A Japanese take on an American burger, it looks like the real deal, then has some unfamiliar elements (for a westerner!) - the bacon is streaky cut but boiled not grilled/crispy so tastes like ham; the cheese looks like the plastic cheese we know and love, but tastes different - not bad different but different. We were looking for a break from the (albeit wonderful) regular Japanese cuisine and this restaurant offers that for sure. Just not sure how I feel about the...
