I have to say that this by far is the BEST museum in Japan that showcases all the various different types of Meiji era porcelains as well as cloisonne. As a very serious collector of Meiji era porcelains, I'm just amazed at all the beautiful and wonderful pieces that are in this museum. The size of the pieces of some are just mind blowing. I've been coming to this museum since its opening and there's always new pieces for me to see. We all must remember that Commodore Perry forced Japan to trade with the West during the end of the Edo and the start of the Meiji era. Japan, at that time, was very poor and they had to produce wares that they thought the West would want. All these wares in this museum truly showcases the shear artistic talents of the Meiji era. The majority of the pieces in this fabulous museum are what one would term "satogaeri", meaning returning back home to the motherland. I highly encourage all, including visitors from abroad as well the the Japanese citizens to come and take a look at the wonderful collection this museum has amassed. The pieces truly showcases the master craftsmen of the Meiji era. By far, this is the preeminent museum in Japan that has lots of different kinds of wares. Many, if not all, museums in Japan are very specific in their focus, but this museum has a vast array of wares. Getting to the museum from the Nagoya station isn't difficult at all and will truly be worth your visit. There's a current exhibition on the Meiji era cloisonne and the display is truly breathtaking. The thing that sets this museum apart from the rest is that they allow one to take photos of the whole collection. With that said, take a little side trip from all the crazy "tourist" spots and come and enjoy this gem. You won't regret it and since the collection is constantly being rotated, you will always find something new to see. To the museum staff, keep up the GREAT work and I'm really looking forward to the next time I'll be there to view the very beautiful and awe...
