台東区立旧東京音楽学校奏楽堂 — Attraction in Tokyo

It’s a real shame because Ueno Park is a beautiful place. This open-air stage though... is a different story. An old, old unkempt concrete structure that is reminiscent of the post-war Brutalist period in east Asia. Though it is nice to have a secluded public space open for rent inside this beautiful park, it’s a quite depressing building to be in, quite honestly.

The walls are dingy, the wooden benched arenas are cold and dusty. You look up and see nothing but rusted beams and cobwebs. The backstage “green room” is not a room, it’s a tiny storage. No space for two people to change comfortably. Everybody kept their stuff outside behind the stage when we used it.

Maybe they can mask all the filth during a nighttime event, but I would very much second guess stepping into this place for any kind of events...

Nice open stage in Ueno Park with good views and sound all around. Nice to use the top area for merch sales as you can keep watching the groups on stage.

It does get windy so make sure to bring something...

For Tokyo, it's a half-way decent park. Plenty of concrete, loads of homeless, quite a bit of litter as well. This is unusual for Tokyo, but then again Ueno isn't the most...
