We arrived in the afternoon before check in time, hoping to leave our luggage there . There was a staff member at reception typing on his computer, nobody else around. We stood there for ten minutes waiting for him to acknowledge us. Finally I fake coughed and he looked up and said "yes?". Not quite the hospitable welcome we have received everywhere else in Japan. ||That said, the family room with private bathroom was small but clean and comfortable. There is a coin operated laundry on the 9th floor but the dryer is pretty weak, you're better off taking it to a 24 hour place where they have washer/dryer machines that do it far more efficiently. ||Included breakfast is a very basic spread (scrambled eggs, mini frankfurts, plain/flavoured bread, cereal milk). It was part of our package. If we had to pay we probably wouldn't - just head across to family mart and bring it back to eat. ||Location is great - about 15 mins walk to Keisei Ueno station (for Skyliner to Narita) and 10 mins walk to Ameyokocho.||Do note they don't offer luggage forwarding. The closest Konbini (Family Mart) didn't either - you need to head up to 7-11 further up. Our word of advice - do check with the 7-11 first to see if they will take the luggage (they need to know how many pieces, size and weight and where its' going to). We did check but arrived three hours later and the staff member told us they can't take it as "no space" and we had to take it another one which ended up being about 1km from Grids. Not a fun experience...
Read moreI recently stayed at Grids during a summer trip, choosing a multi-bunk bed room for its affordability. While the stay had some positive aspects, there were a few areas that could use improvement, which I hope can be helpful feedback for future guests and the hotel.Upon entering the room, I noticed an unpleasant smell, somewhat like foot odor, which was particularly noticeable in the warm summer weather. Better ventilation or more frequent cleaning could make a big difference in creating a fresher and more welcoming environment. It wasn’t unbearable, but it did impact the overall comfort of the stay. The room itself was basic, with standard bunk beds that were functional. Unfortunately, no complimentary towels (you have to pay to get it) which was a bit inconvenient, especially for travelers who might not bring their own. Including these small essentials would go a long way in improving the guest experience, even in a budget-friendly setting. On the brighter side, the staff were friendly and approachable, though they seemed stretched thin at times. The hotel’s location was also a plus, with easy access to Ueno station, making it convenient for exploring the area.Overall, my stay at Grids was okay but could be improved with better attention to room freshness and basic amenities like towels. For budget travelers, it’s a decent option, but these small changes could make it much more enjoyable. I hope the hotel considers these tweaks for...
Read moreThey rent the towel for 200yen, so bring your own towel. The breakfast is 650yen, but if you make reservation with breakfast, it might be 200yen only. However, I didn't really enjoy the breakfast because it is pretty much continental breakfast style without any fruit/Vege.
The room is pretty much capsule hotel style. 3 bunk beds in a room to occupy 6 people. I stayed in a female dorm and a family room. I highly recommend to book the family room. There are five beds, but my friend and I use only two beds for only $75/night just by booking the five beds at once (It is totally worth!). The mattress is hard and I smelled stinks some of blanket cover (not sure where these smell comes from). 3 Shower rooms, 3 toilets, and 4 sinks each floor are clean and brand new. There are Dyson hair drier on Female Dorm floor but not on Family room floor.
Location is good. Especially, I in/out from Narita airport. Within 10 mins walk, there is Keisei Ueno station where you can go to Narita airport via Keisei Express(1230yen) or Access Express (1270yen), much cheaper than Skyliner. You simply buy PASMO to use this all.
One more recommendation is Keien Chinese Restaurant near the hotel(~3 mins away). They serve Hong Kong style Chinese cuisine with reasonable price.
There is a convenience store, family mart, near the...
