It's truly amazing that university museums like these are free to enter - the atmosphere of this small museum with the black walls, high ceilings and lights fits well with the few exhibition pieces, which are quite interesting to look at. I don't think that I've ever seen an exhibition displaying torture devices from different places and periods here in Tokyo - I was quite surprised to find them between the geology displays, vases and literature pieces.
The employees working here are really nice and helpful as well, they seem to know a lot about the exhibits and can explain a lot about them.

Read moreThis museum is tucked away in the basement of Meiji University, and it’s definitely worth a visit. I stopped by the Criminal Investigation Section, where you can see torture instruments such as stone cuffs and execution devices like the guillotine and Iron Maiden.
The staff were super friendly and explained a lot about the exhibits, which really enriched my visit and gave me a good understanding of how arrest, interrogation, and execution worked in old Japan. I didn’t have time to check out the other sections, but I’d love to come back.
