Love this park. It’s sad when I compare it to parks back home because this park is pretty cool! Lots of space in the middle of the business district nonetheless. It’s Clean! Spacious! Playground equipment seems safe, there are a handful of swings and there’s a big slide. There are tables and chairs for people who want to have a picnic, there are vending machines, bathrooms of course, play area swings, and playground slides for toddlers 0-3 years and there are areas designated for children 3 and up. There’s a Huge Slide that’s very wide as well.
Oh and one more cool thing: they have a resting area that features cooling mist where people can rest and relax, sit and park their strollers and chill and cool yourself off from the hot sun and humidity.
They do have a water pool area but it was under maintenance and we couldn’t use it.
They do have other areas designated for ball sports like Basketball and Football (soccer).
The half courts for basketball are aligned parallel to one another, it’s not a full size basketball court. The rims are fairly maintained, nets do exist, and the rims seem at standard heights, but the ground surface court needs a bit tending to, most of the surface is uneven and broken? pebbly (if that’s a word), rocky. It’d be unsafe to play on if you’re playing a competitive game with your friends, getting hurt and ankle sprains would be highly likely. It seems that The courts would just be a place to just “shoot” a basketball, not an ideal place to run and play. Know what I mean?
The football area is small area to practice your one on one skills I guess. It’s not a standard football field but it’s something.
But all in all, this park is pretty cool for a place located in a big city. I give it a a thumbs up for its inclusivity and various areas of play. That water play area (if it’s up and working) would be cool to see. This park is a 4 out of 5 but could be a 5 out of 5 if everything in the park is working well and...
Read moreI recently took my kids to Shinjuku Central Park’s Children’s Park, and while it’s a convenient green space in the middle of a busy city, there were a few aspects that made the experience less than ideal.
First and foremost, the park was overcrowded. It’s a popular spot, especially on weekends, and there were just too many people in such a limited space. It was difficult for the kids to fully enjoy the playground because of the sheer number of children running around. While it’s great that so many families make use of this space, the crowding detracts from what should be a more relaxing experience for both parents and children.
Another point that stood out was the atmosphere of "helicopter parenting" everywhere. While it’s important to keep a watchful eye on children, the overwhelming level of supervision made the place feel a bit stifling. It’s not exactly the free, playful environment I had hoped for, where kids can just enjoy themselves without so much hovering and intervention from adults.
In terms of amenities, the park does have washrooms, which is convenient. However, it could benefit from more amenities to better accommodate the large number of visitors. Additional benches, shaded areas, and perhaps even a small kiosk or vending machines for snacks and drinks would be a welcome improvement. With so many people using the park, these extra touches would make it more comfortable for everyone.
Overall, Shinjuku Central Park’s Children’s Park is a decent spot to take the kids, especially if you’re in the area, but the overcrowding and highly monitored environment can take away from the experience. More amenities and some additional space might make it more enjoyable for families looking for a break...
