October 2024 update -
As anyone who read our review below. This year we have another long holiday again and my family want to give Keio one last chance. So we stay 2 separate trips The first is 4 nights (south tower) and the second 6 nights (main tower) so we can finally compare. I will try to keep this update as short as possible...
First trip (south tower)
again, as my story below. The wall and seeing are too thin. I can hear all the foot steps from people above me. room condition is old now. Both bathroom and toilet have deep stain. this trip I make sure that myroom have daily clear. However, the house keeper didn't clean room good enough. On the day we check-in, I did see the snacks and package left by previous guest under the beds. everything else, services, check-in time are up to standard.
In conclusion, if you are sensitive to noise, please avoid the south tower room at all costs.
Second trip (main tower)
After already come back from outside Tokyo, we have been stay on main tower "Superior Plus Twin Room" which location on highest floor (before premier floor).
We wait for two nights to get this concussion,
The room is more of a model as they said "renovated". This room come with full access to the new sky lounge "ibasho"
the new Lounge is located on the 47th floor and has a large space to set. But as for many guests, there are little crowds and you can't relax. Another great thing on this floor is an automatic Starbucks machine. You can drink as many Starbucks as you want.
about noise in room, after two nights, we didn't hear any loud noise or heavy step from seeing. It's seem that this room having great sound proof as they provide Bose wireless speaker in room to used too.
So after stayed on main building. I changed my stars back to 4.
You may ask why not 5? The only problem they still have is "laundry machines" that they provided never enough. The main building got 45 floors and they only got 4 machines for all guests. And one circle take bout 2 hours. if you want to watch your clothes. You night need wait.
We currently have another long stay at keio plaza after Japan open again. We booked this hotel via agoda and found out later that our room not come with daily cleaning services which not very common for this hotel's level. But understandable as agoda didn't say about this when we were booking.
However, as our 3rd night, when we came back to hotel. Our room was untouched. Bin still full and the used coffee glasses still on the table as we left in this morning.
Which we found it's little too much. No cleaning the room daily is ok but Leave all the rubbish in the bin and not clear glass replace is unacceptable.
After this trip, we probably will consider stay other place. Really sad to see our favorite hotel quality going down compared to before.
Also, as I was given review long time ago. The south wing tower didn't have good noise isolation. As I'm writing this, I still able to hear someone from above us jump down from bed many time.
Update on 11 DEC 2022
Today is our final night for this trip. We went to complain about the very noisy from all direction (room above and next doors) and the answer we received was the guest who make noise will check out today... Yes but the next guest wasn't good either.
This probably our last time staying here. It never be this bad before. 3 years ago before covid. We come to stay here every years.
The last straw for us to give up on this hotel was unexceptional hotel service on clearing.
Yes we understand that the room we booked was not included daily cleaning and we can be asked to change towers if needed. However, even no dairy room cleaning but we need to call house keeping every morning to ask them to remove trash from bin, replace waters and used cups.
I understand that no dairy clean but at least house keeping should at least open the room to remove any trash and replace any used items. By not doing this and asked customer to do requested call everyday is just like Airbnb... No...
Read moreA co-worker and I completed a 14-day cruise around Japan and wanted to spend time in Tokyo afterward. There were lots of options for us, but I decided to stay in Shinjuku and my travel agent booked us into the Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo for four nights, selecting a Deluxe Grand with two beds on a Premier Club floor. This gave us access to the Club Lounge on the 45th floor where we had breakfast each morning.
We arrived at the hotel around 10:30am but check-in was at 3pm so we left our bags and went out to explore Shinjuku. Alas, it was raining that day, so we slogged around trying to find landmarks without much success. In any case, this is a review of the hotel so I will leave our Shinjuku experience for another review. At 3pm, we were efficiently checked in and obtained our passkeys to our room on the 36th floor. We retrieved our bags and made our way to our room.
The room is well laid out, a small closet, vanity and the shower/tub are to your left and the Toto toilet in its own room to your right. Past the bathroom, you enter the main part of the room with picture windows looking eastward. There are two twin beds on the left, a chair and table between the bed and a desk on the right. At 330ft2, it was smaller than our stateroom on the Silversea Muse, but it served its purpose well. Interestingly, the shower/tub had a window so one could see in from the bed area but there were horizontal wooden blinds for privacy. The bathroom could be closed off with a sliding door; the same type of door closed off the toilet. To the right of the desk was a section with a refrigerator, glassware, and a coffee maker.
After unpacking, we explored the hotel and the club lounge. After a bit, we went back up to the 45th floor to try the Sky Lounge, which opened at 5pm. My roommate was always on the lookout for Japanese whiskey, so he had to try one with our charcuterie platter. I had a gin & tonic. The tab was $74.74.
We decided to stay on property for dinner, so we explored the various dining options. There are about ten restaurants in the hotel but when in Japan, eat Japanese food so our first meal was at Kagari, where we had a teishoku meal: highballs for my roommate and more gin & tonics for me. The food was very good, and we thought very reasonable ($94.41).
On another evening we tried the Chinese restaurant, Nan-en, because it offered two items we can’t get in Hawaii … shark fin and turtle. We opted for the seven-course meal and my roommate tried the plum highball while I had a Tsingtao beer. Uh, the highball was terrible, so it was replaced by a normal one. The food was very good and reasonably priced ($230.87). A bowl of shark fin soup, when it was legal in Hawaii many years ago, cost $25 so this meal was inexpensive in those terms.
On our final day, we again checked our bags with the valet station and did our last tour of Shinjuku. We had six hours to “kill” before returning for our 4:30 bus ride to Haneda. We spent the final hour in the Lobby Lounge; I had a glass of Champagne, and my roommate had his final highballs.
Thoughts on the Keio Plaza: With one exception, the service from the management and staff were exemplary; very courteous and gracious. The Club Lounge on the 45th floor is a pleasant space to have breakfast or just to relax. There are many food options available; we didn’t get to try most of them. We did frequent the convenience store often for snacks or drinks.
If I return to Shinjuku, I will seriously consider returning to the Keio Plaza. It’s centrally located yet away from the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku. It’s surprising what a quarter mile will do to change the atmosphere. Our rooms were expensive; it came bundled with limo service from Haneda to our first hotel and limo service from Yokohama to the Keio Plaza and transportation back to Haneda, so It was difficult to figure out what the room actually cost. I think we could have saved money had we made our own reservations but as neither of us are fluent in Japanese, I was willing to pay a premium to avoid any...
Read moreI do not understand how this hotel got such a high rating as it did. I took a 10 day Japan trip and out of the 4 hotels I stayed at (yes it was a lot of destinations and walking) this one has got to be the poorest experience. Don’t let the stagedclassy photos fool you this is a 2.5-3 star hotel at best. I stayed here for 3 days on my initial leg then came back for two more days. After staying in two rooms, I have a pretty good consensus of this place. I knew I should have booked elsewhere but already got familiarized with the area (nothing to rave about) and after doing 20,000+ steps a day just needed a place to rest.
Let me tell you first of all, the bathrooms are old, dirty, with mold. Housekeeping sucks here as there was mold around the bathtub as well as behind the toilets. They are Toto but dated as the plumbing is. You flushed and the pipes run for another 5 minutes. The bathroom is not deodorized and smells like urine. The shower head is nothing to rave about as it did not stay in its position and kept sliding down. The pressure of the water weak. The bathroom faucets are gold plated from the 1980’s and not in a good way. Turning the faucet was so hard due to calcification. You got really hot or really cold water.
Then came my second leg returning to this hotel. The only thing it has is location which is still mediocre at best. I arrived checking in late night. To my surprise blood smeared in the bathroom next to the door casing. Housekeeping completely missed this. I notified management on this app at midnight. No one responded. I had to wake up in the morning to head to Disneyland, met the Desk Manager on duty and showed him photos. He was disgusted and sent housekeeping up. The bodily fluid must have been at least 3-4 inches. Given the clean narrow smear with a slight flick at the end, looked like it came from a fine needle. The hotel claims it is not blood but I’m female and I get periods. I know blood when I see it. When it was cleaned, there was still remnants lodged between the tile wall and the door casing. I never slept well there again which ruined my trip. Hotel bath towels are old and hard against the skin. Free amenities not even a high end brand. Cheap hotel branded similar to a Flamingo hotel in Vegas (2 stars). Don’t forget your own amenities as they are not hydrating.
I paid over $1k to this hotel and it was a complete disaster. I do not recommend this place to any traveler being for business or leisure. I hold a senior role at a financial institution and this place does not hold a candle to other hotels I’ve stayed at for many business trips through out my lifetime.
Mediocre service the only service that stood out: baggage check, did not have to wait long and they were able to process a long line efficiently given ebb and flow.
I would compare this hotel to a pig with lipstick. Things may look somewhat decent but as you look closer, very old and run down. Elevators do not even require a keycard to access. Anyone can come in to access all the floors, that was surprising to me. Escalators did not work half the time. Most of the stores in the main area are closed. The only nice bathroom is in the common area. Food was scattered and hard to find. Buffet was mediocre also compared to other hotels.
Do me a favor and skip this establishment. Avoid an overpriced hotel which pretends to be 5-stars and find a real nice hotel. I loved my first trip to Japan but unfortunately this was my worst experience there.
Spoke to management and housekeeping both refused to discount or refund my stay. Be aware, no true issue resolution. Continued claims it was not blood but the way it smeared and separated into droplets definitely bodily fluid in blood vessels. Just the way it was handled fake demeanor and little effort.
Location decent to Shinjuku and various subways. JR is a 10 minute walk. Too many variations on maps to get back here which also led me to regret staying here. A lot of homeless in the vicinity also. Also...
