The Kenya National Archives, situated on Moi Avenue in Nairobi, Kenya, stands as a cornerstone of the nation's historical preservation. Established in 1965, this institution serves as a repository for a vast collection of public and private records, offering invaluable insights into Kenya's past. Key Features and Significance: Preservation of National Heritage: The Archives meticulously safeguards a wealth of documents, photographs, maps, and other artifacts that chronicle Kenya's journey from pre-colonial times to the present day. Research and Education: It provides researchers, historians, and the general public with access to these resources, fostering a deeper understanding of the country's rich history and cultural tapestry. The National Archives is located in the Central Business District (CBD) of Nairobi City along Moi Avenue, opposite The Hilton Hotel. Outside the Archives is a beehive of activities. The building is also an Archive with old unique and admirable architectural designs from the door to outside. The rich History of Kenya and other African countries is found here in form of artifact, literature and one to one narration by the staff who also take you through explaining about the collected items in detail and from which country the item originates from. We were also shown the library where you can read and research. Massive knowledge hub especially on our country Kenya. The history begins from colonial era to date. A very educative place and also interesting to just visit, as native or tourist. We...

Kenya National Archives and is situated at the edge of the central business district in downtown Nairobi along Moi Avenue next to Ambassadeur Hotel. If you are in the CBD and are looking for interesting day activities, a visit to the National Archives can be one such activity. I went on a weekday so it wasn't crowded. There were a few schools, but that was about it. It is very conveniently located and with only two floors, the visit can be long or short depending on how much of a history buff you are. Most of the artifacts here were collected and donated by Murumbi and his wife Sheila so perhaps a visit to the Nairobi Gallery can be combined with this visit. I have to say I was expecting more Kenyan history, but it is more of a collection of artifacts than anything else. If you are into stamp collection, there is a whole wall on the second floor just for this. It was an okay visit.

I recently had the chance to visit the Kenya National Archives, and it was such an eye-opening experience. I managed to take some photos from the ground floor (that’s the only level open for photography). Access beyond the 1st floor requires special authorization from the management, and of course, touching the artifacts is not allowed which makes sense, given how valuable and delicate they are. It’s definitely a place full of history and culture, and I’d recommend anyone to check it out if you want to appreciate Kenya’s rich heritage
