I respect you. I am proud of him as the same Japanese. It is very far from Japan, but someday I want to come here. The Jew is a stranger in red. If you disobey orders from the ministry, you may be dismissed. But is it really to be beneficial to national interest to kill them? No, it is correct as a human being. Sugihara decides to issue a visa. Every day, without lunch, I issued one by hand handwritten while listening to the circumstances of each displaced person. The fountain pen breaks and fiercely hurts from the wrist to the shoulder, targeting an average of 300 people a day, sleeping like a dead sleep at night in the night. He kept sticking to the departure orders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Soviet Union, finally closed the consulate on August 28, but stayed at the hotel until September 5 and continued issuing. And when I got on a train bound for Berlin, I drove out of the window until the departure and kept writing permits. When the train began to move, Sugihara said, "Please forgive, I can not write anymore, praying for your safety," and deeply lowered his head, "From home to Sugihara, we never forgot you The tears of gratitude say...

This was one of the top 2 higlights of our 4 day visit to Kaunus.

It was a bit of a trek on foot from the town but definitely worth the effort. From the outside the property is unassuming, inside however is a different story.

We paid 10 Euros each, which included 2 Euro to watch a 20 minute film outlining what happened.

The museum appears to be run by a small team, who were very helpful and on hand to answer any questions.

The presentation of information and the use of mixed media to explain the historical events that took place were exceptional. What a great way to make a topic come to life and maintain interest.

It would be difficult not to be touched by the impact that Sugihara had on the lives of thousands of Jewish people. He was a hero, a beacon of humanity in a very dark period of our history.

This is a must visit place in Kaunas but note - opening times are limited. Leave enough time to fully experience what the museum has to offer.

Highly...

I just found the museum in the list of museums in Kaunas and it is available to visit on Mondays. Wonderful staff, taking time for a visitor with less history knowledge and educating with philosophicall thoughts. Even very quiet member of staff - a dog, unusual element of museum for a moment. It was very interesting to get to know diplomats' language and that historical time documentation. Knowing history directly from documents, organisacional life desicions of the country with more authentically restored interior in original museum building. Stronger bonds of friendship with Japan through its devoted, brave person to humanity, who tried to get to know our country. Big human with big heart in...

This small museum presents the history of Japanese inter-war diplomat Sugihara and his associates, who issued "Visas for Life" for Jews and other WW II refugees, enabling them to abandon Nazi-occupied Europe, and find shelter in Japan, and ultimately USA. The exhibition is divided in three parts: "Kaunas, The Casablanca of the North, 1939-1940", giving the historical framework at the start of WW II; documents and testimonies on Sugihara and his associates actions; Sugihara's consulate office and home. When you visit the Museum, I highly recommend you have enough time to watch a 20-minutes introductory film available.

Before I start looking for places to visit during my stay in Kaunas, I have never heard anything about the story of this place. But now I am really happy that I learnt so many things about the actions of these two brilliant diplomats. I really recommend every tourist/traveller to visit this place. It is like visiting a history museum of Lithuania during ww2. You will need around 1 hour or more to watch the introductory video and tour yourself around. The 5 euro entry fee is small (you can donate more, if you like) from my point of view. Bonus: It is open on Mondays, when almost every other museum is closed.

An must visit for every person who has an intrest in the second world war and the holocaust. The museum recunts the story of the japanese diplomat Yoshiara who saved during the holacaust by issuing transit visas. The museum tells his story and recrated his working room with pictures. The only drawback is the while the efforts of individual lituinian that were granted the state of Rigutuous of the nation are extremely commented, norhing is said about the colaboration of the lituinian authorities with the Nazis in the Jewish extermination between 1941 and 1944.
