Must visit place in Vilnius.

Scenic castle, with a nice bridge connecting it to the mainland. Boat services are also available.

It takes 45 minutes to reach by bus from Vilnius central bus station. Overall 2 buses : One bus to reach Trakai bus station from Vilnius bus station, and a bus from Trakai bus station to the castle.

Most people go there for good pics and a nice time. So very few paid to enter the castle.

People can walk around the castle for free, and can sit in front of the beautiful...

В Тракае сохранились два замка, т. н. «Полуостровной» и «Островной», построенные в XIV—XVII веках. Они выполняли основные функции княжеского замка позднего средневековья: военную (центр военных операций, средство военного контроля над округом), административно-политическую (великокняжеская резиденция, место, где концентрировалась политическая жизнь страны), культурно-хозяйственную (ремесленно-торговый центр, место высшей элитарной и народной культуры). Замки были местом постоянного местожительства Великого князя Литвы, что позволяет именовать Тракай «древней столицей Литвы». В центре города вокруг прибрежного холма между озёрами Гальве и Лука расположен т. н. «Замок на полуострове» — один из самых больших замков Литвы, построенный в XIV в. во времена правления князя Кейстута. Замок занимал площадь в 4 га. и имел 11 оборонительных башен разного размера. После 1430 г. замок на полуострове был резиденцией Великих князей Литовских Скиргайла (Свидригайло) и Жигимантаса Кястутайтиса (Сигизмундa Кейстутовичa). В 1655 г. во время русско-шведской войны замок был сильно разрушен. Сохранилось несколько башен и руины стены. Одна защитная башня была реставрирована после 2-ой мировой войны. And there’s a hill to have picnics . The island castle is more popular. Le réserve des châteaux de l’île et de la presqu’île de Trakai (Trakų salos ir pusiasalio pilių rezervatas) est l’un des sites historiques les plus emblématiques de Lituanie. Située à environ 30 km à l’ouest de Vilnius, cette réserve couvre plus de 80 hectares, incluant des lacs, des bois, et surtout deux châteaux médiévaux : le célèbre château de l’île (Salos pilis) au milieu du lac Galvė, et le château de la presqu’île (Pusiasalio pilis), plus en ruines mais chargé d’histoire. Le château de l’île, construit au XIVe siècle par les ducs lituaniens, a été restauré au XXe siècle. C’est un joyau de briques rouges, avec pontons en bois et tours massives, qui attire chaque année des milliers de visiteurs. Le château de la presqu’île, moins visité, offre un cadre paisible et plus authentique, souvent sans foule. J’ai trouvé la visite très agréable. Le cadre naturel est magnifique, entouré d’eau et de forêt, idéal pour marcher, faire du vélo ou du bateau. Le site est très populaire, surtout en été, avec de nombreux événements culturels. C’est un lieu parfait pour combiner histoire, nature et détente. À mon avis, un incontournable lors d’un séjour en Lituanie.
