A Hidden Gem in Trakai – Like Coming Home - Blynu namai!
Stepping into this little café in Trakai felt like stepping back in time — not in the sense of old décor or vintage design, but in the warmth and comfort that instantly reminded me of childhood. The food here isn't just made — it's cared for, just like meals used to be when we came home from school and found something warm waiting on the table.
Every dish tastes homemade, like it was prepared by someone who knows the magic of simple, honest cooking. The flavors aren’t fancy or forced — they’re familiar, soothing, and full of heart. It’s the kind of place where the soup tastes just like your grandma used to make, and the bread seems to carry the scent of a real kitchen, not a factory.
The atmosphere is just as comforting. Quiet, friendly, and genuine — the kind of spot where the staff greet you with a smile that feels sincere. There’s no rush, no pretense, just good food and a sense that you’re welcome to stay as long as you like.
If you ever find yourself in Trakai and need a break from the world, stop by this café. It’s more than a meal — it’s a reminder of what food, and a place, can feel like when they’re made with love.

Read moreThis place is located right in the heart of Trakai, on the way to the castle. It’s clearly popular and well-visited by tourists. We got a table for five and were served by a very friendly young woman who spoke Polish. Outside, there was also a floor manager coordinating the staff. Everything worked smoothly, but I got the impression that he was a bit too strict or controlling, which made us feel a little worried for the waitstaff. These are young people doing a great job, and I think coordination like that can be done in a softer way.
As for the food, the Lithuanian cold beet soup was excellent, probably the best I’ve had in both Trakai and Vilnius. The kibinai were fantastic, aromatic and full of flavor. The cherry dumplings were also great, fresh and refreshing. However, the potato dumplings were a disappointment. The dough was thick, and in some of mine there was only dough inside. It was also slightly undercooked in places. For a Pole, poorly made dumplings in any form feel like a low blow, so I have to take off some points for that.
Overall, it was a good experience, but those dumplings definitely left a mark on...
Read moreTheir potato pancake photos looked amazing so I made it a point to stop by on my last day in Trakai and I’m glad I did!
The building itself is cute and colorful, facing the water. There is a patio portion and an inside area - I sat inside and was greeted by the friendly owner (who spoke English fluently). I ordered a lowland pie, herring potato pancake, and the cottage cheese crepe. The potato pancakes are as great as it looks! I can’t speak to any authenticity of the food, but I was glad I was able to find non kibinai options (also good, but I just had too much) during January, when many restaurants seem to be closed due to low tourism
The friendly owner even gave me a cup of the home made kwass, which was so much more fragrant than the ones I’ve had in chains or stores!
Thank you for the...
