We made a rather spontaneous dash to Kuala Selangor one rainy evening—departed KL around 7pm and reached just an hour later, umbrellas at the ready and spirits still high. The goal? To catch a glimpse of the famed fireflies, one of Kuala Selangor’s most magical nighttime spectacles. A word to the wise: the best time to visit is between 7 and 8pm. Any later and you risk missing the show, as the fireflies start to dim their glow and call it a night. Timing, it seems, is everything when dealing with nature’s own fairy lights. Now, if you’re lucky and time your trip just right, you might also witness the enchanting blue algae phenomenon—where the water lights up in a surreal neon blue glow. It’s like the sea threw a rave and forgot to invite the humans. But do note, this only happens during high tide and certain months, with June being the most likely candidate. Each experience—fireflies and blue algae—has its own dedicated boat tour, and we went with Jet Sky Mirror Kuala Selangor, a name that’s built a solid reputation in these parts. The boats are well-covered (a blessing in unpredictable weather), and the crew clearly prioritise safety and know-how, which is always reassuring when you’re out on the river after dark. Tours are reasonably priced at RM35 for adults and RM30 for children (local rates), though foreign visitors can expect a slightly higher fare. The ride lasts about an hour—just long enough to soak up the serenity and take a few “ooh and ahh” photos without overdoing it. All in all, it’s an experience that blends nature, wonder, and a touch of adventure. Just check the tides, keep an eye on the clock, and let Kuala Selangor do the rest.

It is a must to go if you come to Kuala Selangor, at least once. Book the time slot first through their agent tour, dont walk in unless it's on weekdays. If you go in the morning, it's not that hot. They have afternoon slot too but it's gonna be hot. You'll need to standby at the jeti at least 10 mins before your slot time, dont be late. Calculate all the traffic jam and so on. They have washroom at the jeti, its clean and well maintained. So have your business done before going on board. My family went for the sky mirror tour (they have plenty of other tour packages), spent 30 mins on the small island to take some photos and head back after that. Upon reaching the island, you will be asked to remove your slipper/shoe (except swimming shoe). You don't have to bring any props, all provided including colourful umbrella. Snacks and water given after photography session. Extra: The island was formed in year 2004 after a tsunami hit and then was discovered by fishermen which became their resting place.

We were plain unlucky that our trip on October 3, 2022, to the sky mirror phenomena did not materialize and we were pretty disappointed. The boat ride in the open sea to the sandy outcrop took about 25 minutes from shores. The rides to and fro were exhilarating, at F1 speed, with the motorized boat traversing over contrarian waves. It proved to be too much for some on the way back who suffered seasickness. We waited for more than an hour for the low tide to take sway for the sand bar to emerge but to no avail. We couldn't see for ourselves the transformation a wide swath of sandy outcrop in the midst the great sea or take any memorable and artistic pictures shown in their website.

Hi there... Hi Travelllerr_ travelllerz outhere.. Hi Food/Beverage etuziazz'ed....

Me honestly couldn't rate any of these..me at all had no experiance regarding this "Sky_Mirror". It is ust becoz of this #map_notification*... My daily ordinary activity ...go here..go there...offcoz la the things ask you..what happen here ..what they got ..is it good or not🤣...extraordinary or discount_ordinary. Just share about little which I know and where also I've heard from wether friend members or them local people arround and yet might call my otg/otw build_in knowledge. (while groom & grown😔)

Ok then... back to the very topic.. "Sky Mirror"....where once a while I might love saying tho as.... "mirror2 under the sky"😏😊 Reason through which I think I can tell is because am originated here...grown up here...30/40years playing_hangn' arround pusing2 lepak2 right in this historical Kuala Selangor(it is mention and authorised by our town municipal council whom they call Majlis Daerah Kuala Selangor or its already upgrade Majlis Bandaraya Kuala Selangor. (sorry if i'm wrong🙏😔) OK...we will start from "the jetty" (don't know the real name,me tembak only maa)where its also known as the starting check_point or them tourist will get on or get in the boat(on_board )then offcoz start your journey to the "Sky Mirror". "Goggle Map" offcoz,.everyone knows. Just to story about the Kuala Selangor depature point or onboard point for boating :- from Klang Royal Town,it is "approximately arround 50++km ..will gone through Kapar(then another 30++km to reach Kuala Selangor). For sure from Kapar,.the route is quite busy and the road itself is quite uncomfortable(known that the authority had no other alternative route if sort of re-build or road make-over project being carried ...) Just be caution and be sure for own safety...it's NOT that worst...still at it best from that somewhere else😏......and Google Map or whatever to them whom journey starts from Kuala Lumpur ....🙏 and make it a bit short cut to this long2 story🤣 🤗.... This dear "Sky Mirror" is located at "Straits of Malacca also known in our beloving country whom they call " Selat Melaka" ....it seems a bulk of sand then accumulated being a mini flattered island and on their above was wet like slice of water(am I saying it right🙏🙄) then radiated strictly by the Sun's ray.....offcoz shinning laa then....berkilat seems it seen such a big and wide shiny mirror. Ok then......while we slowly cruising the natural beauty of that yellow river🙏😏where on your right yet even your left is among our Malaysian reserved forest and its' state as "hutan kayu_bakau reserved forest"....also used to strengthen along those river bank ..to pretend the land from slide in towards...cause from that strong build up wave...yet also with the heavy current movement from each of those whom seems and seen like Sepang 180 degrees laps.(corner...... 🤔) There two "check point"... One were arround this Historical town...Kuala Selangor and d'other one were located arround Sungai Buluh,Jeram (fisherman boat area,.along one of their river bank) Maybe there is any other Depature Station/Jeti Berlepas.....

Goggle it out...if there is....not that sure. Apology due to salah or silap upon typing ...english grammar even spelling hope not that bad(learning still) and so on.... (apology me...🙏😔)

Till thnnn.....see yalll next. ...& as uuuzualll ....Stay SAFE...

We came for the Eagle feeding, fire flies, and blue tears experiences here.

⚠️❗️It's much cheaper to pay for the 4th sky mirror excursion, too, by the way, but we came after hours, so the tide was high, and we could not go.

⚠️Expect to turn up somewhere rather eerily silent and then sit and wait ages...... especially if you do the Eagle feeding at 5pm. The next slot for blue tears and then fire flies straight after is at 8 pm. There is hardly anything around to do as places close at around 4 pm. Therefore, before you go please make sure you have exchanged plenty of money ahead of your visit, have drinks, a lift there and back prepared (pre booked taxi, private driver, your own car or equivalent) and ensure you have organised somewhere to eat e.g. Auntie Foo is nice and a short walk away with clean toilets and halal food but closes before 5 pm.

✅️There are clean toilets on-site, a very small shop selling necessities. ⚠️No loo roll, though, ladies!

❗️❗️❗️Now, the most important thing! It's pitch black when you do the excursions on the boats, so if you are prone to mosquito or insect bites, then please take a very good insect repellant and antihistamines and maybe hydrocortisone too. Here is why:

🏥🆘️⚠️I came back from here with a massive insect bite and required emergency assistance - the bite nearly affected my muscles, so please prepare ahead. The bite became infected quickly and spread rapidly, so be sensible and prepare before you go. We were advised by medical staff that it's common to get some serious bites here from flies or spiders. Perhaps consider taking a thick hoodie they can't bite through and wear long bottoms too. After my experience, I would not risk going to something like this again with short sleeves or exposed skin and would use a WHO advised DEET insect repellent, not even the local one I bought. I would also advise that you carefully check the life-saving vests🦺 they give you to make sure there are no insects in them. We still don't know what bit me, so just be very careful, please.

❗️Some staff don't really speak much English so prepare for that too. Use Google Translate.

⚠️You need your passport and contact details at the ticket counter.

⚠️Wear sensible footwear like trainers and don't sit at the back of the boat unless you don't mind soaking wet feet and the smell of fuel.

⚠️Unless you have some good kit, there is no point in taking videos or photos as nothing gets picked up in the dark, and I even have the latest phone, so FYI, plus you attract the...

Went blue tear excursion on 19 Sep 2020, 10pm slot. Extremely disappointed, 1 star is because that is the minimum to give review, would give a 0 if possible.

  1. Booked 9pm (even stated in my booking receipt) in advance 2-3 weeks before, but only gotten informed on that day morning itself that the excursion time changed to 10pm, because apparently there is no 9pm slot that day, and 8.30pm slot is full. No big deal, start later then.

  2. Gathered at the jetty 9.45 pm as required, however their actual boat only available at about 10.15pm. So by the time we pick and wear the life jacket board the boat (about 16-18 people in total) its around 10.20pm. Bear in mind it takes around 10-15 minutes to reach the blue tear area.

  3. While waiting, the jetty was without aircon and there is not a single minute without mosquito (with repellant applied already), while their competitors just opposite the river has a very nice aircon waiting room. So we either wait in the car or feed the mosquito for 30 minutes because they were late.

  4. So out we went onto the boat to the blue tear area. With our bad luck, the blue tear sightings are almost non existence (around 0.00001% of what those promotion picture looked like, i personally expected around 10% of those promotion picture), the boatmen provided us some scoop to disturb the water to prompt the blue tear to appear, even then, it was almost non existence. The kind boatmen told us that is due to the water retreated into low tide faster than expected and clouds are building up to rain. Then we head back.

This is just a note to other visitor: If you saw anywhere online saying sky mirror is the only one providing the excursion, it is a false or outdated statement. I understood from other sources that there is more than 1 that operates such excursion.

Summary:

  1. Time slot changes without more option (either take it or change another day, come on this kind of trip has to be planned in advance since travelling from KL takes some time, on top of multiple visitors)
  2. Not punctual despite being asked to read 15 minutes earlier at the jetty.
  3. Horrible waiting area condition, neither air-cond'ed or mosquito-proof
  4. Excursion is a matter of luck, for me, its not worth the money.
  5. Ironically, Its their competitor right across the river that given us some kind of comfort as we hang out on their nice and pleasant platform for some nice snacks before we went to the...
