The Mdina Cathedral Museum is a must-visit for anyone exploring Malta’s rich history and artistic heritage. Located near St. Paul’s Cathedral, the museum offers a fascinating journey through the history of Catholicism in Malta while showcasing the island’s incredible artistic legacy. The collection is beautifully preserved, featuring artifacts, manuscripts, paintings, and other treasures that reflect centuries of devotion and creativity. Every exhibit tells a story, making it an enriching experience for history buffs and art lovers alike. The €10 ticket that grants access to both the museum and the cathedral is excellent value for money. This museum is a gem that shouldn’t be missed when visiting Mdina!

The Mdina Cathedral Museum is a religious art museum located inside the mediaeval walled city of Mdina, Malta. We went during the week - the weather was fantastic and so the crowds were large. There was a little bit of a wait to get in. The museum is housed within a Baroque building that was built as a Jesuit seminary. The architecture is breathtaking and the collections are stunning. It can be found on the right-hand side of the St. Paul's Cathedral, in Archbishop's Square. We were very glad we went.

The museum’s permanent collection is solid and deserves a star. However, I’m giving a strong minus for the temporary exhibition glorifying the Romanovs and referring to them as “new Orthodox martyrs.” In the context of russia’s ongoing, brutal war in the heart of Europe, this framing is deeply troubling. Showcasing russian imperial figures in such a reverent light feels, at best, tone-deaf—and at worst, an endorsement of a narrative that ignores current suffering and aggression. It’s a poor choice of exhibition material, and frankly, in very poor taste.

Additionally, many prominent works in the rest of the museum lacked descriptions beyond just the names. A bit more context would greatly improve the...

The museum is fascinating if it wasn't for the poor organization of it. The artifacts displayed are described in one word and the year of it's making, no word about what it is made of or what it was used for, additionally the description is on the side of the shelf so sometimes it's difficult to even find it. Additionally every painting has a label, bit so poorly placed that when looking at 4 different paintings you have no idea which label is for which painting. It's a pity that the arrangement of the museum is so disappointing, because I wanted to know more but just couldn't because of the bad arrangement and labeling. A lot of...
