the atmosphere is lovely at this restaurant. We were seated and served by Aby who was a lovely gentleman and ensured our visit was smooth however, it wasn’t smooth sailing at all even though Aby tried his best. We were also served by another waitress, Joanna who was also very accommodating and professional. We have been sitting here for an hour and a half because both mine and my husbands food came back not cooked and not halal. I opted for the prawn carbonara which i was assured was completely halal but the waiter brought it back with pork pieces on it which we then sent it back and it took another 20 minutes for them to remake it without the pork. My husbands ribeye steak came back with lots of raw blood dripping out which we again had to send back and it came back another 20 minutes later. At this point, we were starving and past our lunchtime. I didn’t mind this part even though it was quite annoying the whole back and forth but we were understanding because the staff were being super nice about it. What annoyed me was the manager, Rebecca’s behaviour. We asked her for help and she looked straight at me nodding but walked straight past us. When I asked Aby how to make a complaint about Rebecca, she looked straight at me again with a miserable face on. The food was lovely but I wouldn’t come back again due to this one staff member. I wish i could give 5 stars to Aby alone because he was remarkable. They then came with the bill expecting us to pay the FULL amount and that wasn’t fair because they made us wait a full 1h 30mins due to mistakes they have made without being totally understanding. We were only given formal apologies without something being done about it. When we asked Aby for a bit of a discount, he said he will ask Rebecca who then gave me a screwed look and she came back and said she won’t give me a discount but can give me the dessert for free which we didn’t mind. Her tone was very patronising as well which we didn’t appreciate. i do not recommend this restaurant to anyone at all & if you have had a similar experience to us then please...
Read moreCame here for dinner as a group.
Atmosphere was great. Quiet, enclosed, nice music.
Staff was very attentive, and was mostly good (more on that in the end).
The food was the issue. Felt like the chef was having a bad day.
We ordered the ribeye. Fantastic piece of meat, mega thick, probably 400 grams in there. For the price, wow, it was excellent.
We ordered two identical steaks, one came with raisins and fried spinach on top, one came with nothing. Only thing that differed was the sides. Strange but ok. Both were cooked medium like ordered. However I got the impression that the chef is allergic to salt. For such a huge piece of meat not to be properly salted?
Ok, I have hands, I can add salt.
The peppercorn sauce for the steak. Perhaps I am wrong, but for a small 50ml jug of sauce, minimum 2/3 was simply uncracked, whole, peppercorns, with very little liquid itself.
Ok, fine, sauce varies from chef to chef.
My rating of 2 stars for the food is not on the above. The 2 stars comes in for the dessert. 4 people out of the group ordered the chocolate cake with orange, and ice cream.
We all tried it, and immediately said it’s too salty. 3 of us did not manage to eat it. One did, out of politeness. Confused, we checked the menu, no salt. We even looked up recipes for this cake online, no salt. We complained. The reply we got was that the chef mistook the sugar, with salt.
Seriously? Does chef not taste his food?
The night ends on the dessert, and this carelessness really set the mood to end the evening.
We were told “we’ll get you something sweet”. Ok, sure. After 30 minutes of waiting (good we had beers and cocktails to keep us busy) we were asked if we want an aperitif. A liquor.
Was this the “something sweet”?
Anyhow, not the best experience, and unfortunately towards the end of the evening.
Cocktails were great though, and staff was...
Read moreAs part of our trip in Malta, we booked a few Michelin restaurants, one of them was Medina. We were very much looking forward to it as the menu sounded very tasty.
The service was a bit awkward. We ordered a few starters and mains to share. We thought they would bring dishes in the order of food temperature (cold then hot dishes). However, they actually brought all the dishes at the same time. I was bewildered when he brought them all. We ended up eating the hot ones and leave the cold ones (which we should have started with). In addition, many items were missing of the menu such a s the red prawns.
The food quality was the most shocking bit of our lunch. i mean we booked this place because we thought we were going to eat in a place referred by the Michelin guide. In addition, many things such as the red prawns were not in the menu. The fish tartar literally had whole anchovies in it and in a a very high quantity, I genuinely felt this was an anchovy tartar but the waiter confirmed it was a sea bream tartar which I never manage to taste. The falafel were a an actual crumble of ground chickpeas and the humus was thick, bland and tasteless. The Ravioli sauce had an insane amount of butter and bland as well with no flavours. finally, the frito misto was fine with no extra ordinary flavours but served with harissa from a supermarket jar. I am extremely disappointed not with the restaurant but with the Michelin guide who misled us. This place should never be part of the michelin guide. Honestly one of the worse disappointing food experiments i have had.
The place is nice though in the middle of the Medina.
I will email the michelin guide separately regarding the above.
Please do not take this in a bad way but this was a genuine feedback. I hope you will find a way to improve but you definitely should not be in the...
