Let’s start with the positive: great atmosphere. Great location. Live music.
The real issues? The service is beyond subpar even for Merida’s well known already poor service standard. The food was extremely mediocre with the exception of their wings (however, important to note we only tried the appetizers since they never brought our food out). Our waiter took our drink and appetizer order. I specially asked if the wings came with blue cheese or ranch sauce on the side. He told me ranch. I asked again to be sure - please note that Spanish is my first language - I told him I have an intense hate for blue cheese and he once again said that the sauce on the side is ranch. Welp, it turned out to be blue cheese, as I found out after my first dipping of the celery sticks and almost vomiting immediately after (I am pregnant at the moment so when I say my hate for blue cheese is intense, I mean it). He forgot our drinks and kept on bringing food (appetizers) without them. Once we finally reminded him of drinks one last time and he brought them out, we accidentally spilled one of the drinks right in front of him. He stood there and watched as we struggled to clean it up, wipe the table with not enough napkins, and didn’t move a single finger to help us or even bring us more napkins as he saw there simply weren’t enough to dry the puddle on the table. After seeing us struggle, he asked if we wanted to order the duck rolls, which was an odd timing all together. We said no, and he left as we were still trying to clean up the table. He never came back to help clean it. He kept on forgetting to refill our drinks the remainder of our visit even after we kept on calling him over to outright ask him for more drinks, water, coke, etc. these never came. We had to eat our appetizers without drinks… even the spicy stuff. I flagged down another waiter. Asked him to please give us some coke, water, or beer (literally anything) he said sure, asked what kind, I answered, I also asked for a second order of wings with ranch and status of our food order and he said he’d check. He brought the ranch later, but the drinks and wings never arrived. After sitting there for an hour getting slaughtered by mosquitos while simultaneously getting the worse service we’ve ever gotten, we decided to call it a night and leave. Had to ask him for the bill several times and wait another half hour for him to bring it. We left hungry, thirsty, and beaten up by mosquitos. I live across the street from Hennessy’s - I was genuinely excited to have an Irish pub right by my house. Unfortunately, sitting on a row of nothing but bars and restaurants, Hennessy’s really falls immensely short on service and quality of food. If they want to stick around, they really are going to have...
Read moreSo, the food was good. Duck rolls? Get them. Tasty. But heck, my dudes. The service was some Keystone Cops stuff. I mean, I worked in food service for a number of times. And this was just cartoonish. We got there on a Saturday. 23:00, Google said they close at 2:00. Cool. Ask where we want to sit, we pick the terrace out back. A menagerie of waitpersons take orders, some on point, some messed up. We don't make any ado about not having plates, the mojitos being substituted with coffee drinks, the cuteness of stealing napkins from a neighboring table not being reciprocated with... you know. Maybe bringing us some napkins. And still, like, plates my dude. Here's the thing. I know. Woooow, we're in Mexico, and tHiS iS tHe BaDlAnDs, and oh-mygoodness, you just gotta expect blah blah blah blah, right? No! This country does do better than that, and that's not an excuse (especially when lackadaisical tendency is postured by the management). Don't chuckle at a complaint. You are running a not-cheap restaurant. We're dropping, like, $100 here. You know? And you're moving band equipment around? Stacking tables? Folks rushing to clock out? Hoping to have a nice time upstairs, and having some dude yell at us that our food is there on the table, and that we'd better get to it NOW, gash-durrnitt. Lights getting turned off around us, the... I mean, if you didn't want us to be there, why didn't you tell us? I mean, just tell us. "Who was your waiter?" Umm... Were we supposed to have one? It's OK. This is Merida. This was a Saturday, and there are plenty of other places. And, it's the end of Corona, and all kinds of stuff, and nobody knows what the heck they're doing. And, that's OK. I hope the restaurant reads this. You're a DAMM FINE RESTAURANT. Your food is solid. Your cocktail program is solid. Your location, great. Aesthetics, impeccable. But heck — coming from a guy who never complains? That's gotta mean something. I gave a 20% tip. That's because the waitstaff did the best with what they could. I admire them. Good people, and I appreciate their efforts. The problem is the management. The management of this restaurant is...
Read moreWe went here on a NFL football Sunday because of ratings we had seen. We had a super amazing time. The service was awesome and the food was decent. We had waited an hour for our game to come on and the staff that was working at the time of our arrival was wonderful and very accommodating, turning on our football game. We enjoyed the service and atmosphere thoroughly all the way through the fourth quarter and into overtime. We were in the very final moments of overtime when there was a shift change and new staff came on… despite the fact that we were the only people in the room and were obviously very attentively watching the game a woman who worked there came in and changed the channel in the final seconds of overtime! We saw that she had the remote and was doing so, so we preemptively asked her to please not do that but she just ignored us and changed the channel anyways and laughed. Whether would’ve been a five star review all the way around was reduced drastically because of that person. We are going to email the business and let them know what she did and I will attach a photo of her to...
