A spiritual, life-changing experience, and well worth the investment at the PRIVATE VILLA MACARIO GÓMEZ JUNGLE LOCATION!
My wife and I loved the three-hour spa experience plus one-hour massage - it was nothing short of magical. A truly spiritual journey in a private enclave. Neither of us felt that any vacation experience that we have ever had could be more emotionally bonding. And the two ladies/therapists that guided us through all of our treatments were amazing!
You are led by your guides/therapists through a large private villa (in the jungle 25 km west of Tulum) to a large private room with a bed, sitting area and a bathroom with a shower, and asked to put on a towel (a bathing suit is optional and really not recommended for any of the treatments) - we chose to go sans suits and, as the therapies progressed, sans towels. Then led to a gorgeous pool, and throughout the session rubbed with salt and clay (and later oil if you request the additional massage), showered. saunaed and immersed.
All the while you will be surrounded by nature, with dappled sun through the trees, all to the ever-changing sounds of birds, frogs and then crickets(?).
Then the amazing (optional) oil massage.
Walking around without a stitch on in the jungle garden and enjoying these spa treatments with someone you love was, as my wife said, life-changing (and in retrospect, a little biblical!). All we needed to do was avoid the apple (in our case, the clock) :). But we only had four hours!
And our hosts were literally fantastic. Warm, nurturing and gave us the best massages we’ve ever had. Thank you Lili and Yao Yao.
Bottom line: for a truly amazing experience of a once-in-a-lifetime spa treatment, the investment was...
Read moreAs I always do, during the weeks coming up to our trip I search for unique spa experiences. I stumbled across Mayan Clay Spa on Trip Advisor a few weeks ago. I did my research, followed them on Facebook and Instagram thinking wow this is going to be amazing! I can't wait for Mayan Clay Spa experience. Boy was I disappointed... First off, we emailed them to book a 3 hours bathhouse experience at the Jungle location. They promptly emailed us back with info including how to sent deposit. We promptly sent 50% deposit through PayPal to Susan Maria Hurley Lee. It had appeared to go through, then we got an email from Mayan Clay Spa saying they never got it.We tried to CALL them several times but NO ONE EVER answers. When we said we contacted PayPal and that it was accepted that's where they STOPPED responding to my husband. This put such a DAMPER on our trip. We thought.. is this Mayan Clay Spa a SCAM? Rob emailed them several times and no response. So I decided to email them from MY email address.. They promptly respond with info on how to leave a deposit. Now we are thinking, OK this is A SCAN for sure.. Our "appointment" wasn't until Monday so we decided to drive down there to see for ourselves. To our surprise, the spa did exist and it was lovely on the outside. In the end, we got a 2 hour massage with clay at the beach location. Not what we wanted but we were just happy we didn't loose our $150 USD (we are from Canada). They never emailed Rob back. Staff never apologized for the HUGE inconvenience. Spa nice but NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE or MONEY. I hope this never happens to anyone else. This was the black cloud that hung over our beautiful...
Read moreI booked a solo two hour clay massage at the beach location while two friends did a couples massage and I was thrilled to experience a relaxing morning.I was assigned a male masseuse who recommended for me to remove all of my clothes since clay would be used. To my horror, once I was face down on the massage table the masseuse removed the cover sheet to below my knees leaving my butt area completely exposed, keep in mind that these massage rooms have large windows without curtains where anyone can walk by and see everything. He then proceeded to massage my back and slowly reached for my entire butt area, massaging my buttocks over and over again which made me feel uncomfortable and violated, to the point where I had to tell him to stop. Not to mention that all he did was rub clay onto my skin without offering a proper massage. I recognize that before the massage I was provided with a sheet to mark which areas of the body I did not want touched but having gotten many massages in the past I assumed that the buttocks would not be left exposed or massaged over and over again in their entirety while I was completely naked. Once this ordeal was over, I asked my friends whether they were massaged in the same way and in the buttocks area and they said they were not. I felt disgusted and violated to have gone through this kind of an experience as a woman getting a solo massage. The business did provide me with a full refund due to his horrible experience but I would highly recommend any woman who considers using their services to be very careful request a...
