My husband and I were in Tulum for our first time during the first week of April 2023. We were a bit concerned about rumors of partying and overly-touristy as we like more relaxed, peaceful vibes, but decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. I think we got lucky because the majority of spring breakers were gone by then. We also lucked out with a great hotel find. Suenos was tranquil; the grounds were manicured and zen-like. You can tell that they put a lot of thought and love into it. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were communicative via email and WhatsApp prior to and during the visit. The food was good and generous, like home cooking. Breakfast was complimentary; we ate lunch there while relaxing on the beach a couple times (the guac was a standout!) and we had dinner there on our last night.
In our opinion, they have the best beachfront area of all the hotels (we walked the beach and saw the other hotels). There are plenty of chairs and shade, including hammocks/beds, so you can enjoy the beach while not being in direct sun, if that’s your preference. Their beachfront and restaurant are available only to guests unlike many other places which open it to the public. There is also a decent sized plunge pool which most hotels don’t have. It was quite windy and wavy when we were there, but we loved it as it provided white noise and a needed breeze. Apparently, the intensity of the waves and wind vary by season and are unpredictable due to climate change.
The AC was cold and sufficient at night but it is powered off in the day. Usually, it turned on around 6pm and off around 8:30am. Luckily, we ate dinner a little late so we were showering and getting ready around the time it turned on. We also opened the door to our balcony and a nice breeze came through (even better if we opened the front door -we were on the 2nd floor so it was very private). The view was beautiful – so close to the water. If they could find a way to keep the AC on longer (a little later in the morning and earlier in the evening), it would make it more pleasant for getting ready or if you needed to take a nap in the day (which we never did but we came in to change clothes and it was very warm). It’s not a deal breaker as many hotels have this issue. (But there are some hotels that have the AC available all day.) A little more time would be ideal.
The bed was very comfortable. They had filtered water available in the room and replenished it each day. I am sensitive to fragrances so asked to avoid that in our room which they did. Apparently, they do add perfume to the towels and the sign hanging on the door, so if that bothers you, let them know. (I personally think it is unnecessary.)
The yoga was not available when I was there which was disappointing at first (I think their teacher was away?) but there are other places around for that, so it worked out. I walked to Sanara which has a great yoga spot in my opinion as the studio is right on the beach (I wouldn’t want to stay there – just go for yoga).
I would definitely come back and stay at Suenos and I highly recommend it if you are avoiding the party-scene! (I will also note that we were not bothered by hotel noises on either side as both seemed to be vacant and under construction/in limbo. Not sure what to expect in the future as those projects evolve but it’s...

This slice of heaven might be my favorite hotel I've ever stayed at, and it deserves that title! We came for 5 days/4 nights for our girlfriend's 30th birthday, and everyone on the staff made it so memorable and special. The hotel is farther down on the beach strip, so it's much quieter and still very safe & easy to walk around. We stayed in the UNBELIEVABLE Treehouse Penthouse - I mean theres a hammock in the middle of the room - it can't get much better. The 4 of us had plenty of room; there's also access to a private rooftop right above, that has a few lounging chairs, table/barstools if you wanted to eat up there, and the most beautiful, far-as-the-eye-can-see 360 views!!!
The experience you get here was so personalized; whether it was making room in the front office for my friend to have her zoom meetings for work (and bringing her breakfast/coffee to her over there!!) or making sure the rest of us had topped off spicy margaritas on the beach, they made sure we didn't have a single worry on our minds. One of our dearest staff members, Sebastian, even helped me plan (haha actually his idea) a birthday surprise for our friend, showing up with a beautiful cake to our room singing happy birthday! Even the housekeeping was in on it, and made a gorgeous display on her bed while we were out at the beach - she felt SO loved and special. The staff really make this hotel what it is. Our lovely waiters, Cecilio in the mornings & Ivan in the evenings, always had a smile on their faces and worked so hard to ensure we didn't lift a finger. For example, our birthday girl wanted to make margaritas while we were getting ready one night, so Ivan brought A WHOLE TRAY of margarita essentials (this penthouse is 4 stories up by the way) so she could practice her skills as we were getting ready!
Honestly, I could go on and on about how incredible this place is, but you have to experience it yourself. To the traveler reading this review, you will have your own memorable, thoughtful, and tailored experience. The property is captivating, the beach, the staff, the rooms, everything. No matter what's bringing you to Tulum, Hotel Suenos is a must stay. I'm already looking forward to returning to this slice of heaven, and no way will I be staying anywhere else!!
Much love, Kirstee xoxo
COVID information: For those wondering, the hotel had a doctor come Friday and Saturday for guests to get rapid or PCR testings done to return to home destinations, if applicable. It was very easy, took about 5 minutes, and the results were emailed to us. I believe you can also schedule an appointment for the doctor to come to the hotel if you miss the times when he's already there. Happy...
Read moreWe truly had a wonderful stay at Suenos Tulum. It's located in the hotel zone/beach area (middle/south) with a lot of great restaurants, shops etc. around (walking distance). In case you need a taxi, you will easily find one as well.
The hotel area is a real oasis. You get the jungle vibes the second you enter it. Everything is lovely designed and planted. It is quiet and has something mystical about it. You'll find plenty of places to retreat and relax, whether it's by the fire pit in the evening, on the rooftop terrace at sunset, or of course on the beautiful beach.
What surprised us the most was the quietness in the whole hotel area. While elsewhere the guests have to fight over the best places/loungers, here you have the feeling of having arrived alone in paradise, as the area is large enough for all guests and that is certainly a great advantage of the hotel.
I would also like to highlight the friendly staff, from the reception to the chef and the bar staff. The food including breakfast and the drinks were delicious and the staff was very helpful with everything, also with organizing trips (for example to Sian Ka'an). You could order food and drinks throughout the day and everything was prepared very lovingly (we especially liked the tuna salad). When we had to leave early in the morning for an excursion, we were offered to prepare breakfast before the official time, which we appreciated very much. And we loved the breakfast spot overlooking the sea...
I can give one tip: We first booked the Beach Suite (ground floor) but switched after the first night and it was honestly a game changer. The Junior Suite on the first floor was bright and friendly with large windows through which you can see palm trees and from the balcony you had pool view and I would always book the Junior/Master Suite again.
Thank you for the wonderful stay Suenos Tulum, we definitely want to...
