Where to start....I have so much to say. Our long weekend at Luv Tulum was the most relaxing weekend we've had in years. This hotel is a sanctuary--quiet, intimate, and safe, a pristine beach, delicious food, fabulous staff. What more could you ask for?? If you're still not convinced, allow me to elaborate.
For starters, the staff are all wonderful, hardworking people. Arturo was extremely helpful and communicative, and Angel (aka Angelo) provided such friendly and active service. Truly a delight to be taken care of by them and the rest of the lovely team at Luv Tulum, including Jesus, Fernando, Mary, Jaime, and the fabulous workers who maintain the property.
This brings me to my favorite point, the property. Jaw dropping gorgeous. I'm obsessed with the fact that it's a very small hotel (about 16 rooms), so it's never too crowded. It's quiet and private and delicious. When you walk along the beach, you'll notice huge swaths of shore that are taken up by hundreds of visitors occupying trendy resorts, all with loud electronic music blasting. Not so at Luv--this hotel was so intentionally and mindfully designed so as to not exhaust and destroy the piece of land it sits on--to instead work with its natural surroundings. The palapa roofs, the wood used throughout, the beautiful lime concrete, the windows...the sound of the ocean and the waves....a dream.
If I had to offer feedback to the hotel, my only suggestion would be to install screens into the glass doors/windows of the rooms. The breeze that makes its way in when they're open is beyond delightful, but you don't get to enjoy it from bed otherwise the mosquitos and other bugs will come in. They do have beautiful mosquito nets, but the wind sadly doesn't penetrate through the cotton. In the end, better to keep them closed and use the AC, but would be great if we could keep the doors open next time we come down :) Bugs were not a problem at all! Mary did a great job cleaning.
I've seen some comment on the water pressure in the showers, and it's true that it's not very strong, but what do you expect? You're in the jungle...It took me a while to wash my hair (thick long curly) but it's a small price to pay to be in paradise, so I wasn't much bothered. This hotel is definitely a bit more rustic than the average resort, but that's why we like it--it's restorative for the soul to be one with your surroundings.
Ultimately, it's such a relief to see that hotels can still be built mindfully and sustainably--proof that you don't need to raze land in order to make it habitable, like so many hotels and resorts. Staying at Luv was the perfect way to spend my birthday with my fiance, the staff were so nice, guests were kind and respectful--TAKE ME BACK!!! Muchas gracias por todo!! Also shoutout to Jose, best...
Read moreSuch mixed feelings about Luv Tulum. The property is gorgeous, the rooms are decorated very nicely, the beach is absolutely incredible, the staff were nice and friendly, and the breakfast was delicious. The vibes were exactly what we were hoping for when we booked a vacation in Tulum. ||However, we also had a number of challenges during our stay that were hard to ignore. While we understand that this is an eco-friendly resort and weren’t expecting complete five-star luxury, the cost was a decent amount, which made the issues more frustrating. ||To start, when we booked the room, the property confirmed there would be air conditioning in the oceanfront rooms. However, the AC was not functional for the entire duration of our 8-night stay. We brought it up with the staff on several occasions and received varying explanations - from it being a generator issue to the government not coming to connect them to the power grid. To manage the heat at night, the staff gave us a floor fan and told us to keep the doors wide open to get the sea breeze. However this was not sufficient, and my fiancé didn’t get more than a few hours of sleep per night. Plus, our stay included a rainy night and the water blew into the room, forcing us to close the doors entirely.||Additionally, keeping the doors open all night let in lots of bugs and MICE!! We woke up with lots of bug bites (despite closing the mosquito nets around the beds) and had several nights where we heard mice running around and squeaking in the room. The mice even chewed holes through multiple pieces of our clothing. ||There was also another night where the water went out in the room for more than 12 hours and we were unable to shower, flush the toilet, use the sink, etc. Even when the water was on, it was salty and the pressure was so light it was difficult to shower. ||For what it’s worth, when we had issues with the bathroom light being burned out, the staff were quick to fix this, and they were very helpful overall. The cleaning staff, in particular, did a very good job. However, with the other issues, we ended up deciding to leave early and book another hotel for our remaining time in Tulum, despite having already paid for the full duration...
