Pizza Pazz Tulumunchies — Restaurant in Tulum

I try to be a generous tipper, even when there’s no table service, so when Pizza Pazz automatically added a 15% gratuity and asked me to confirm, I said yes. While they were still making my pizza, it started pouring rain. With my three-year-old daughter in tow and no covered place to sit, I asked for a to-go box so we could eat in our hotel room across the street. The woman at the counter—despite my already large tip—demanded 200 pesos for it. No other vendor in the area charges for a takeout box, and when I explained I had no cash, she just said, 'You have a credit card, you can charge it.' I was stunned. Humiliated.

Thankfully, Holy Smokes (the excellent BBQ stand a few spots down) gave me a box for free, and we finally ate in peace. As for the pizza? Fine, but absolutely not worth dealing with a place that nickel-and-dimes customers and treats them with such indifference. My friend ate at a taco place here a few times so I decided to try it. I ordered a quesadilla con hongos y guacamole from Juanitas Fajitas . The guacamole was super sour which is what it is but upon arriving home with my Togo box after feeling sleepy and sick, I discovered they had served me steak. I am a life long vegetarian. How does Hongos (mushrooms) sound like carne or any other word that would indicate meat. The space is dimly lit at night so I couldn’t see my food but I thought it tasted weird and only ate one piece. Thought maybe it was a different kind of mushroom that was more chewy. Honestly this place was super clutch for our trip. Staying on Tulum beach is terrifyingly expensive. I’ve had cheaper meals at streak houses in Las Vegas. When we just wanted an easygoing bite to eat, Tulumunchies was it! The pizza is really good and the tacos rival the big name restaurants. The American burger at the burger stand was a monster!
