Update: July 2022
I recently went to Yaan to celebrate my Birthday. This was my second time there (last time was a few years ago) and my heart was so happy that I went back on this trip.
I love everything about Yaan. From the carefully detailed Magical environment, to the energy and practices of the Ancient Maya- they cover all of the bases for anyone looking for peace, healing and enlightenment inside.
My masseuse was Rosy- and I want to thank her infinitely for making my experience extra special. She even catered to the fact that I was still working on my Spanish and challenged me to learn a few things during our conversation exchange. The massage itself was out of this world- she hit all of my problem areas like a professional and her energy was truly beautiful.
After my massage I indulged in a citrus bath (highly recommend) and the fresh fruit, honey and tea while in the tub were the perfect touch!
Muchas Gracias for a lovely day Yaan. I'll be back soon :)
Previous review: In the short time that I was there, Yaan Wellness Spa truly reset my energy in the way I hoped my trip there would. I came across this magical place while reading a Tulum blog post, which spoke of how special Yaan was, & all I can say is that the spa itself and the wonderful women up front exceeded my every thought and expectation. I left this zen oasis in tears (after hugging the amazing women up front) because I felt so spiritually cleansed. The rich smell of sage just hangs in the air as you pass the burning flame on the way in, and it only gets better from there. Already planning my trip back....

I think my boyfriend half asleep could have given me a better massage. I should of known immediately this experience would be sub-par when the massuse looked at the list of places I asked her to work on and she said "I'm trained for feet and hands only." Hindsight is always 20/20 right? Then I lay down. The room has zero A/C and she put me under a blanket in 90 degree weather so I started sweating like a roasted pig immediately. Despite the pouring sweat, she never asked if I was comfortable or wanted less blankets. When I finally asked she responded, "we don't have anything thinner" ... No apologies or attempt to make me comfortable. So as I'm sitting there sweating, she starts the massage on my feet. At first I'm like I can barely feel this, but I give her some time to warm up. 15 minutes go by at the same weak pressure (think when your grandma gives you that light shoulder rub), so I ask if she can go a little deeper please. She does for about 30 seconds and then goes back to the light bird hands. 15 more minutes go by and I ask her again to go deeper. Same thing. 30 seconds of "OK I think she gets it" to "gr how much did we pay for this?!" There are so many spa and massage places in tulum, I feel like I got dupped based on the pretty sign and reception area. Please don't make the same mistake and take your money elsewhere (especially since it's 3x more than many other...
Read moreI’ll start by saying it was the more blissful and reenergizing 3 hours of my life. I got the mayan energy healing + mayan deep tissue massage. I think I could have done with just the mayan deep tissue massage tho cuz I realized upon reading the descriptions more carefully, they are very similar. (Wish the front desk ladies had advised me — this is the reason I’m giving this place 4 stars is because I did not find the front desk staff exceptional, they were kinda cold and can’t be bothered)
But my service: My masseuse was a matronly mayan looking woman with strong hands. She was friendly, funny and obviously skilled. She was literally like magic, not only did she chant, play instruments and rub me in a mezcql and herb concoction for energy healing, she used hot oil on her stone-like fingers to get at the knots in my back (or maybe they were actual stones), and then she used her cool forearm to roll out the muscles after. This technique of alternating hot and cool was phenomenal. I’ve never had a massage like that in my life.
All bookings allow one hour of lounging by the various pools and saunas prior to your service. Altho I’m not sure why they don’t allow you to relax there after your service as well. Another reason why it...
