I love the availability of tables and the wide range of books here - from cookbooks to manga to the history of Epsom. I've used this library for years and appreciate how it's open until 6pm on weekdays, which is the perfect amount of time to get some studying done before heading home. However, it's not the ideal place if you can focus only in absolute silence. There are usually primary school kids running around, screaming or crying, and you can usually hear everything loud and clear when the librarians help someone out. My 3-year-old daughter accidentally drew on a book we borrowed, and when I went to pay for the damage, the librarian's attitude was incredibly dismissive. Instead of offering a solution or showing understanding, she told me that I should "keep the book for her to draw again" rather than disposing of it in the rubbish bin. This response was not only unhelpful but also quite rude. As a parent, I do my best to teach my children respect for books, and this situation was frustrating and discouraging.
