The statue shows Sir John in mayoral robes, holding the Deed of Gift of Cornwall Park in his right hand.  • The statue is about one-and-a-half times life‐size.  • The statue base is made using large blocks of Mt Eden stone.  • The fountain: there is a pool and fountain jets at the statue’s base, playing (i.e. water flowing / water feature) which completes the structure.

🏛 History & Restoration • It was unveiled on 24 May 1906 (Empire Day) and paid for by public subscription in gratitude to Sir John’s donation.  • Over the years the fountain/statue had become less prominent as trees, roads, and development obscured its visibility.  • A restoration / redesign project for Campbell Crescent (the entrance area) was carried out between 2017-2020.
