Where do I begin? Check in went ok. While we were getting into our room some loud music started blasting from one of the other rooms. This would be an issue that would go on day and night for the two nights we stayed. It only stopped when my friend yelled from our upstairs window to turn the music off. The room itself was a lounge with a table, couch, single bed and kitchen downstairs and upstairs a room with a double bed and bath room. There beds were so uncomfortable my friends barely slept. There were badly patched holes on the walls, poor home DIY type repairs, new carpet with very uneven flooring underneath, filthy coffee mugs ( we went and purchased our own), uneven amounts of cutlery , no dishwashing liquid to clean what we used, we had to buy our own toilet paper as we were given one roll and were unable to contact staff about more - the 24 hour reception we were told was there was nonexistent. It was advertised that the room would be serviced, it was not. The bathroom was full of home like DIY repairs, paint peeling from the windowsill and a shower over a dirty looking spa style bath. There was no nonslip mat for the bath, which meant, as we had to climb into the bath for our shower, I ended up slipping and hurting my leg and back . There were many cobwebs in the room, we had two tvs and no remotes that worked ( or even matched the tv brands there) several lights bulbs had blown, and the fan to cool the room down was so dusty it couldn’t be used as it was a health hazard. The photos online are very deceiving. We paid $220 a night and would have changed motels if we could get into another one but, we were unable to find anywhere as the city was fully booked due to events on that weekend. All I can say is,...
Read moreBooked on Motel website. Took special offer of 3 nights for $80 instead of $99 for 2 nights, on arrival was told (no services as we’re only paying $80 a night) didn’t say this with offer. Was given unit 2, Toilet window was firmly stuck in open position and the window and frame was filthy dirty. Owner said window was open for ventilation, it was June so cold, I said I wanted the window closed so hubby had to punch the window frame to close it, window above shower was also filthy. Finally got room warm at 9pm and went to have shower. ( NO HOT WATER ) went to reception, was moved into unit 3, unit freezing, had to punch windows closed again and filthy. Garden out back of units un-kept 2 plastic dirty tables and 4 dirty plastic chairs between 7 units had to clean them before we could use them. An old rolled up carpet in garden. Could hear everything going on in the unit above, floor creaked very loudly. Shower in unit 3, the waste was blocked and we had 3 inches of water in the tray this took a long time to drain away. The fridge was noisy and very close to the beds and kept us awake. Motel is on a very busy road so lots of traffic noise. Hubby went into hospital on morning of second day, as I was going to be out of the unit with him until 8pm I left the panel heater on so it was not freezing when I got back from the hospital. Owner had been in unit and turned heater off so again was freezing when I returned. This is the worst stay in a motel I have ever had. Would never go...
Read moreCame here for New Years, and it wasn’t a great experience.
Check in was pretty straightforward, one of the great things about the place is the location: only 5mins drive to Newmarket shops, around 10 to the CBD it’s quite central without being central. A bus stop is right outside so using public transport is pretty great too.
But this is where the good points end. Our room while having all the necessities besides a kitchen sink, had a few concerns. There was a particular smell staying in the room with us, couldn’t tell if it was dog or previous guests messes. Presentation of the bed was okay, not great but still good. The carpet wasn’t vacuumed and there were several corners of the room that looked like it wasn’t cleaned proper.
And then there’s the bathroom: while the shower itself was done well, the other aspects of the room hadn’t caught up. You can tell there’s a remodel on the way for the building which is hopeful for future guests, though when it’ll be is hard to quantify.
Overall: if you’re just passing through on a short stay then this will do just fine if you’re happy with a deal and the proximity to the fun bits of Auckland. But for something longer than I’d suggest another place. Kudos to the staff for...
